OK, what is a light ranged weapon?

The magic item "slippers of battledancing" gives the ability to "use his charisma modifier instead of his strength or dexterity modifier for attack rolls and damage rolls with one-handed or light weapons(both melee and ranged)".

But, as far as I can tell, "light" and "one-handed" are specific terms used to refer to different types of melee weapons. Is there something wrong here, or does the ability only apply to melee weapons that can be used at a range (basically daggers and weapons with a throwing enchantment)?

Yep.
I'd say the weapons to which they refer would include:

Dagger, Club, Shortspear, Throwing Axe, Light Hammer, Sai, and Trident

What's getting me is the use of specifc game terminology in non-specific ways. I can easily read it as saying (as magic_gathering said) that hand crossbows count by being one handed - except that "one-handed" is a specific section on the weapon chart and hand crossbows aren't in that section. It's not clear if they want to use the game definitions of "one handed" and "light" or the common english definitions of those words. For instance, a ranged touch spell is a weaponlike spell and it can be used with one hand, but I can't tell if they intended it to work with the slippers or not.

where are hand crossbows then?

The same rules apply when you throw a weapon from each hand. Treat a dart or shuriken as a light weapon when used in this manner, and treat a bolas, javelin, net, or sling as a one-handed weapon.

Could that be what they were referring to?
