Don't Hurt me but I think I love 3.5

Hugely excited over 3.5! Not getting excited about AU at all, though. Don't get me wrong, it sounds pretty cool. I just don't see convincing a bunch of people to buy it, or trying to run a game with only one.

I actually like the 'everything is square rule'. 3.0 was supposed to do away with the idea of facing in combat, so you don't have to pay attention to where a creature's head or feet are. But that's difficult when you're fighting a giant worm which is one square wide and 4 long.

Player: I go whack the worm in the head, right here. (points to the creature's 'end')
DM: There's no facing in 3rd edition, that's not his head.
Player: Fine, I'll whack him in the arse. (points to the other end)
DM: There's no facing in 3rd edition, that's not his arse.
Player: So you're telling me that this 4x1 creature has neither a head nor an arse??!!!

All joking aside, maintaining some realism with that creature's threatened areas is nearly impossible when it its a long thin stick, but somehow lacks a head, a rear end, and any other discernible anatomy. Why should its nonexistent head be able to reach so much further on one (parallel) axis than it can on the other (perpendicular) one?

So far I have mixed feelings about 3.5E. I like most of the spell changes I heard so far, especially the haste, polymorph and stat boost changes - spells I have not used much if at all so far.

I banned the new ranger, since I consider it grossly overpowered for my campaign. The new Barbarian is a border case, but may not make it in my campaigns either.

3.5 has my seal of approval thus far!

But my approval is not final until the books are in the hand, and more importantly, E-Tools 3.5e is installed on my computer!

I'm with The Toe on this one- the 3.5 changes have me excited. I really hope they continue the trend with making having a ton of magic items/magic less requisite to character survival, and instead focus on character abilities improving over levels. After all, what makes a hero great isn't his gear or tools, but what he is capable of on his own merits.

I've already got my money squirreled away for the 3.5 books, just waiting for the day they hit my FLGS! :D

I am also of the '3.5 is a good thing' crowd, with the exception of the square critters thing. That rule is easy enough to ignore though, and I tend to go by what size the figure's base is more than the face/reach thing anyway.I have a lot of figures, and have been collecting them since the 70s. (As for facing, I just allow everybody a chance to change facing once a round as a free action, at any point during the round.)

Oh, my. You have been denied all that is Red Dwarf?!? That makes Mr. Flibble very cross indeed...

You can go here, but the you'd be best served to try and find reruns of the show. It's brilliant.

By the way, I like the 3.5 changes, though I'm with everyone else on the paladin/monk restrictions.

Overall I am looking forward to most changes in 3.5. My main gripe is with the Mystic Theurge, which I think is not a good solution to spellcaster multiclassing problems. There are a few things I'd wished had been changed, but apparently weren't (such as non-stacking of caster levels when multi-classing, multi-classing restrictions for monk and paladin, unchangeable restrictions on druid weapon list, mechanic for metamagic feats). But I like most of the changes, at least as they've been described or leaked to us so far. I look forward to reviewing the system as a whole, though, to see how it all works together.
