It is a close thing, the monstrous snakes are beginning to writhe near the end of Gratien's spell, but the group manages to hack them all to pieces before they become fully conscious and able to attack again.
Kurl is able to heal Gratien some of the damage he took.
Now that the threat of the ghouls has passed the group can more thoroughly look around the room: the runes on the walls are carved in the likeness of massive bears or warriors donning the skulls and pelts of bears. These bears and bear-warriors are shown triumphantly battling dozens of foes.
The slab of stone that makes up the altar surface shifted slightly when the ghoul dropped down from where it clung to the ceiling. It looks like there might be a space below and shifting the slab reveals the well-preserved hide of an enormous cave bear. The hide is fashioned into a cloak and attached to a bear skull that would serve as helm when the whole thing is worn.
[sblock=OOC]DT, Kurl doesn't have disapproval; his spell failure made the chance for disapproval more likely. Disapproval occurs on a spell check of 1 and increases by 1 for each spell failure. Kurl's is currently at 1-2. This will reset the next day.
Don't forget, Kurl also has +2 to all spell checks (including lay on hands attempts) from the torc he wears. This makes his check a 13, just enough to heal Gratien 1d6. Healing, for the rest of you, heals a number of dice (based on the lay on hands chart) of your hit die type (a d6 for elves, for example) and no more than your total hit dice even if the cleric should roll exceptionally well (no more than 1 die at level one).
