Dr. Si's Curse of the Crimson Throne - Escape From Old Korvosa

OOC: Thank you for the vote of confidence, but Edmond looks into the tunnel and I don't see how she could find anything to hide in...and with -10 circumstance bonus I at least have a chance :p Sorry, Axel, I like the idea of pranks, but this is wrong character for that :)

Watching behind to see what Ignatius light reveals, Edmond is startled to feel a tap on his shoulders and his first reaction is combat crouch and the magic blazes over his weapon.
Realizing what happened he relaxes and turns more slowly so that Mhairri doesn't get split in half with Deathwail.

"Mhairri! We're not on the streets. What happens when next time I feel a tap and brush it off as a prank when it is killer vine or something coming for me?"
Mhairri knows Edmonds sense of humor is...if not dead then at least handicapped. His voice after the initial outcry returns to his usual monotone.

Laughing, Mhairi replies, "I know, but not everything is going to kill you if you let it get close to you! There's a set of spanking nice doors around the corner, not even locked. I don't even think they'll squeak ominously if you open them. Cheer up, it's not every day you get to play in a noble family's special deviant lair."

Heading back down the tunnel, still smiling, Mhairi asks Manachan, "How do you think they even built this place? Where did they take all the dirt and rocks they dug out?"

Ignatius turns to the double doors in front of him. "Do you not think we should perhaps check these out first then?" he muses out loud.

"I'd rather check side doors first. I would say big double doors are real entrance into the labyrinth and once inside we'll probably be closed in. Maybe this sideroom is some kind of equipment closet for those nobles delving into the labyrinth for fun? What do you say, team, big door or tunnel door?"

"It's supposed to be a labyrinth guys," Mhairi replies. "There are no good ways to go. Though, the doors down the rubble look fairly impressive as far as an entry statement go. Could be the official start?"

"I don't know for sure, Mhairi. I'd guess it depends on whether the labyrinth was built before or after the manse. If it was built before, they likely used the excavation materials to build the manse," Manachan replies. He looks to Edward in his turn, and says, "I don't think it matters at this point. Or rather, it matters, but we don't have enough information to make an informed decision."

Manachan Character Sheet

Ignatius goes to open one of the plain double doors on the side of the cavern. To him it seems fancy doors lead to fancy areas, which sounds just like a labyrinth.

Ignatius' conjecture is not entirely correct - these plain double doors lead into an opulent area, a vast room at least 50 ft. long, floored in marble and vaulted above. On either side, life-size statues of a tiger-headed man stand in alcoves, three on each side. At the end of the room the floor rises to a dais, where there are three more of these statues, the middle one twice the size of the others and holding aloft two flags; one the coat of arms of Korvosa, the other of House Arkona.

In the middle of the room are two enormous snakes, that seem to take up at least half the floor space. There is a man in Vudran robes sitting on the steps of the dais, watching the snakes. He looks up calmly as the door opens, and makes a "wait" gesture.

"Shhh," he says softly. "They've just been shedding, it makes them a bit ill-tempered."
