I enjoyed it, but I didn't like the sudden superpowers The Doctor developed. Flight, telekinisis, some kind of energy shield. Reminds me too much of Rose suddenly developing superpowers to defeat the Daleks - bizarre plot devices of RTD.

So The Master has been finally, permanently killed off? Again?

Martha leaving - she's in the next series, but not every episode. This Christmas: the Titanic with Kylie.

Pure cheese, but an especially fine bit of cheese. :D

At least this time the Deus ex Machina had some justification and plenty of foreshadowing.

He'll be back... :)

Overall though I was a bit disappointed with this episode. Perhaps I was anticipating too much (after last week's) I don't know. The end of series finale was a bit of a lame duck to be honest.

The only good bit? The Face of Boe :D

It seemed a bit silly to me to kill off the master at the end (although his 'I win!' at seeing the Doctor so discomforted was neat.

But... did you notice the feminine hand picking up the ring from the ashes of the pyre, and the masters laugh? I'm guessing it wasn't just a homage to Flash Gordon's final scene, but rather evidence that we can see the Master again.

I really liked this episode; I was (pleasantly) surprised by The Plan and the eventual resolution of it. The only real 'plot hole' that I can think of was that when the Doctor first found the tardis transformed into a paradox machine, he said he didn't dare do anything to it until he knew exactly what it was doing. Turns out that Captain Jack discovers that you just needed to fire lots of bullets at it !?!

Even so, Martha laughing, the reveal of the plan and the zero-hour activity world-wide... I found that pretty emotionally involving.

Cheers

Hugely surprised by the Face of Boe, but it was such a neat wrap up of various threads.

BTW, I added a 'major spoilers' tag to the title line, because it would be a tremendous shame for someone to accidentally find out some of the stuff in here before it is revealed in the episode.

Cheers

Oh, I can't disagree more!

RTD's scripts are plot-hole-tastic.

1) Bizarre, previously unintroduced or explained magic sudden resolution? Check. If eeryone thinks about the Doctor, he'll a) regenerate; b) gain superpowers; and c) The Master will just stand there saying "Stop!" How does that work again? Let me repeat that... if everyone thinks about the Doctor at the same time, he gets younger and turns into Peter Petrelli. Right.

2) And on that "stop!" thing - The Master doesn't shoot anyone. His guards do nothing. Everyone just stands around. The guy's a supra-genius of The Doctor's level; IQ beyond human imagination. With a gun.

Plus - why did he need to be PM anyway? This whole building-up, "Vote Saxon!" stuff over the series. His plan did not require him to be PM. A few episodes with him running the country might have made him seem like PM (he never did); but he still didn't need to be. He just needed to flip a switch and let the Toclafane in.

The Master falling for the 5--part gun. Supra-genius. He would know that's not possible.

In one year, a single person getting billions of poeple to shout "Doctor!" at the same time? Without mass-media? I bet even Fox couldn't manage that now.

Doctor aging turns into that impy thing from Harry Potter? OK...

Eh. The whole magic superpowered Doctor thing was just silly, IMO. Silly new invented powers. Reminds me of Superman at the end of Superman II, where the director just decides that Superman can suddenly throw plastic s-shields and teleport.

But I loved the Face of Boe thing.

Maybe the 5 chemical thing, IS possible. It has to be, otherwise The Master wouldn't have fallen for it. The true thing fooling the Master was making him think that The Doctor could ask someone else to kill him.

As for the aging/small body big head thing, it seems to be a theme. It makes sense too. Think about it. The Face of Boe, millions of years old and he's just a giant head. The rest of him has atrophied. It goes to reason that as you evolve the mind/brain just takes over more and more or something.

In any case, it's all sci-fi fantasy, it was fun to watch and very touching.
