It's still too much of a stretch mate. RTD gave no indication at all in the screenplay that tapping into psychic field of the Archangel network would give the Doctor that kind of power. Had they included scenes which set up that 'oh, tapping into a global psychic field gives one power over matter and such yada yada ', the Doctor's sudden power surge would have been understandable, instead of leaving us scratching our heads in confusion. It was a lazy and convenient way to end it.Felon said:I don't know why folks put such value on literalism. The Doctor figures out how to turn the bad guy's own weapon against him, and the tools in this case are simply all the people chanting his name This is a shiny variant on traditional polarity-reversing, but it's polarity-reversing nonetheless.
There are many instances when explanation of the fantastical science in Doctor Who helps in keeping our suspension of disbelief. Stephen Moffat, great writer that he is, went to all the trouble of explaining the mechanics of nanogenes in The Empty Child, that when the Doctor uses them to save the day in The Doctor Dances, it's a perfectly logical and miraculous moment.
