In all honesty, none of those characters should even exist in their new version (well, except perhaps Kit).

Dragonlance, like Star Wars (and Dark Sun), suffers from the big problem that there is very clearly a singular main story, and that story is resolved almost entirely by a specific band of heroes. That's good for fiction, but it's far from ideal for the game - do your PCs really want to just be the sideshow to the main event?

So if they're going to the trouble of reimagining the setting, they should also remove those iconic characters, to create as much space as possible for the PCs to be the heroes of the setting.
Or you can make an original "war" setting and stop grinding your own IP into dust.

I know, unrealistic in this wonderful modern world of ours.

You dont have to be the sideshow to the main event, you can be the other main event happening on the other stage. While Tanis and Crew are taking down the Dragon Army, your crew is stopping Sargonis from rallying the Minotaurs for an offensive on an already weakened Krynn. Or while the battle of the High Clerist Tower is happening, your crew is off in the north recovering a cache of lost Dragonlances vital to the war.

Just because the books arent about your characters doesnt mean they shouldnt exist. There is a whole lot of land out there for OTHER big damn heroes to be doing very important and major things.

While they may be the famous Heroes of the Lance doesnt mean DM Jerrys campaign cant end with his players heroes being the Heroes of Solomnia.

Its a big world, everyone and their stories can fit in it. Or is it only important that YOUR PC stop Takahisis?

Dragonlance 5E are the battles you don't see in the Novels or what not. Aragon didn't fight against Mordor by himself. Frodo and Sam weren't the ONLY ones doing their part. Likewise, while Tannis and the gang are doing their thing, you'll have other PCs partaking in "other" battles that took place during the War of The Lance.

If the Flood is sent to terminate a wicked race of humans who buried alive just born among other example of vile actions then "it is not right" but if Gaia or Pachamama cause a natural cataclysm against the humankind because this poluted too much the Nature, then it is our fault! It is not unfair!

A reimagination of all D&D settings not only is inevitable but even necessary in some things. It is not only because the yougest generations are different, but also the "crunch" and changes in the gameplay. For example to add the psionic powers we can say this was discovered by a group of the "Seeker" sect, or the warforged were created by the tinker gnomes. If Hasbro thinks the ursines are perfect to sell action figures, then we can see ursines as the new PC race.

Maybe the kingpriest became a dark-lord in the demiplane of the dread.

* Don't you miss the spider-dragon? With a right redesign it would be fabulous to sell figures.

1) Yes. Typically the expectation is that the PCs are starts of thier story and that's pretty difficult when the game makes it clear that you're a second rate symphony.

2) The books themselves demonstrate that stopping green chili Taki is not super difficult.

3) I feel like family counseling is in order rather than 'stopping' her.
