D&D 4E Dungeons of Dread Preview 1 - 4e stuff!

I may be misremembering, but didn't one of the designers comment that they would have just made all the giants huge in 4th edition, except that then there would be less giants for the minatures line?

Sort of. I believe that what they said was that they would have made them huge, but it would have made a ton of existing minis useless. If they didn't already have the huge minis, I bet that they would have huged 'em up.

Edit: And radiant damage had been mentioned somewhere previously- on the WotC site somewhere, I think. I got the impression that it was light/positive energy damage.

That's correct. I think it was in the Shadowfell chapter of W&M that they said Radiant Energy was replacing Positive Energy as the "life force"-y energy type.

WHere's the Fort and Will defs? Or are they blanket defenses?
The cards have a blanket Def (as well as a separate AC stat). Some monsters have modifiers, such as a +2 to Def (Fort).

Here's what the cards say for those of us with bad eyesight:
Ascendant Hellsword 96 points
Level 11 AC 22 DEF 25 Speed F8 HP 105
Attack Actions:
Two-Handed Sword (melee) +14 vs AC: 20 fire OR 20 cold Damage
Infernal Slash: Attack each adjacent enemy once, +12 vs AC, place target up to 3 squares away in line of sight, then deal 20 fire OR 20 cold damage
Abilities: Evil Devil Cambion Flight Resist 10 Fire
Special Powers: Soul Shroud: +4 AC and +4 DEF (Ref) against ranged attacks
Champion 3
+10 VP for destroying an enemy in any victory area
Use when you win initiative: Activate 1 extra creature during your first turn of the round

I'll post the next two as I finish them

It's actually two-bladed sword, rather than two handed. The interesting thing being that while I'm sure many people will decry the continued existence of double weapons, it seems attacking with both ends in one round isn't going to be happening as often.

Hydras are going to be downsized from huge to large? Sigh. Like the heads however!

The hellsword (which will work as a demonbrood in my wilderlands campaign) has a double bladed sword. sigh...

That was my reaction to the Goofy Sword as well. Just a quiet sigh of exasperation.

The Evil tags make me somewhat sad as well.

Personally, I like the solo hydra idea. I don't know if I like the serpentine form, but meh, I can adjust.

I've always liked serpentine hydras since the first time I came across them in "Jason and the Argonauts"

did you also notice that the sword does fire or cold damage, but not normal/slashing damage? What's up with that? Reminds me of the Pit Fiend and his mace, but this is DDM, so creatures immune to fire and cold are completely immune to the hellsword's sword...
