Eberron Forge of War - info?

Sidekick

First Post
Hi there everybody. I'm keen to buy/interested this book, as are a few others.

However over at WotC's Boards there's been a MASSIVE :):):):):)-fight about one little paragraph concerning the Silver Flame. I['ve also noticed that the thread here has started to be taken over by discussion about this dark day in Thrane's past.

Personally I'm over that particular topic & I'd like ot know more about the book and the other 160 odd pages of info.

So I thought I'd start this thread for people to share info and things they think are cool about the book in order to convince me and others to buy it/tease those who don't have the book yet. Oh and also if you're wondering if X, or Y are in the book ask and someone with the book will (hopefully) answer.

Please no big discussions over the Thrane/purge/burning at the stake thingie - I'm over it and want to know about the rest of the book...

Personally I'm wondering how much space is given to battles & events that happened in the last 10-15 years of the war. That'd be very useful for character background etc etc.

I am waiting for my copy to arrive. I preordered it from Ebay. I should have it in a day or so. I bought it as an aid for PC backgrounds and possible story ideas. I'll check it over when it arrives.

I have it. Their are about four pages devoted to the last twenty years of the war in the first chapter, plus bits and pieces spread throughout.

I just bought it a few hours ago. It looks pretty spiffy based on the fifteen minutes or so I've had to look at it so far.

It is *very* spiffy. I hiked out to my FLGS last night just to make sure I picked it up so I wouldn't have to ask to borrow my friend's copy, and I spent a good hour in the Wendy's next door reading it before trudging back.

There's a lot of historical background, in the "who did what to whom" sense, but the detail isn't over the top. I'm quite happy with it.

Is there any information on pre-Mournland Cyre? IMO, Five Nations did a poor job of describing the nation before it was destroyed.

Two questions (still can't find this book at local stores):

1) Do any fans of the Keith Baker novels know if they mention anything about Daine's unit (that would be in Cyre) or the Battle of Khelden Ridge mentioned in the novels? Geeky quesiton, but just curious since the opening scene of Keith's first novel is just an awesome example of what large scale war in a fantasy world would be like.

2) Do they provide details on typical tactics used by various forces? Ie. Valenar light cavalry vs. Karnnathi heavy cavalry?

I'm going to have to get this. My current Eberron PC is an Artificer Dragonmarked member of House Cannith who led a unit of Warforged in the war in a sort of Captain/Tech Support position, and I want to see if this would have any validity "by the book."

As I understand it from what I've read about it, the book has an almost BattleTech-like breakdown of military and mercenary units and battles? I hope so, that would be rad to read. I love having historical details like that so I can say "yeah I was in that unit in that battle."

The first chapter does a great job describing actions in Cyre, and military action by Cyre in other nations. It also gives great colour especially to Queen Dannel, the last Queen. But it doesn't describe its culture in the way or detail Five Nations did for the other nations. The armies of Cyre also get nearly two pages of description, though I haven't read that yet properly.

Each of the major nations has their armies described, and the sections include a "Common Tactis" heading. It does a good job describing Valenar's tactics, and actually describes it taking out a Karrnathi force, though it doesn't specifically mention Karrnathi cavalry. From browsing the Karrnathi section, it doesn't mention the Valenar; it's mostly about general tactics.
