There are a number of regulars here who constantly pronounce their dislike of D&D3. (One wonders why they come here.) We've seen their names here: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=139038

I don't often go to the Dragonsfoot forums, but I wonder: are there D&D3 players over there constantly pronouncing their dislike of earlier editions of the game? Are there D&D3 players who use every thread over there as an opportunity to deride OD&D, BD&D, and AD&D? Like some of them do over here?

I'm curious if the "going out of your way to spout hate" is all one way. If it is both ways, and if it is not: what is this need that some people have to go piss in someone else's sandbox? Is it not completely childish?

I heard they track down anyone who posts hate over there, knocks em out, pants' them, and puts them on a bus out of town with no money....

Depends.

To your question why no D&D 3.x players go to Dragonsfoot in order to speak of their dislike of older D&D versions, the answer is clear: They love the currently published setting, with lots of new supplements released every months, so there's enough to talk about. Fans of older versions are not in such a lucky state.

As to people who criticize D&D on here, most of them (I can only think of one exception :D) don't criticize D&D 3.x for everything that makes up the current version, but often for very specific aspects. This is not just trolling. It's more like looking around whether any other D&D fan has similar dislikes with the current version. As we are talking of the current version here, there is at least a slight chance that such a criticism might carry over into the next developed version, or there might be some alternate ruling for the current one. In this context, such criticism actually makes sense.

The same cannot be said for simple trolling on a board for vintage D&D versions. Those have seen all development they got. Bickering there would really be completely senseless.

Disclaimer: I'm no fan of old D&D versions. I don't have anything against them, either.

Ditto.
:)
(I like aspects of both RC D&D and 3e -- but neither is my preferred system.)

There is one guy over at Dragonsfoot ('kewlmarine') who takes every opportunity to trump 3e. It's rather amusing, actually. And of course trolls always show up. But most 3e fans don't go there since they banned 'edition wars'.

Yeah, KM32 came to my mind too.:D

Original poster: I think that the question is baiting. I play all versions of the game and many other FRPGs. Simply put, none of them is perfect. If my pointing out the weaknesses in the version you like offends you, then you're a fanatic, and the problem is yours, not mine. I find fault with them all in one form or another, and strengths in them all in one form or another. I'm sorry if you can't respect that.

My current campaign list includes D&D 3.5, HackMaster, 1st Ed, and C&C. So yeah, I'm not a "D20 fan", I'm a "Fantasy Gaming fan".

The majority can't cajole the minority, it isn't PC.

That said, I tell anyone who'll listen of my no-ending hat of pre-d02 DnD.

Quoted, because I can't say it any better than this.

I can completly understand where Quas is coming from, Ive seen so much invective against 3E from some people, and over and over again, that it gets nauseauting. Some people just take every oppurtunity in any conversation to state loudly and boldy how much they hate the game, over and over and over. Now, I love 3E far more than any of the previous versions, but I dont hate the old versions (well, maybe 2E), and if I found a group who wanted to play a 1E game, well sure Id go for it. Id rather play 3E, and if I could only play one or the other Id choose 3E, but if I could play both at different times then sure it would be rad to play a 1E ranger again. Heck, Id LOVE it if I could find people who would play something BESIDES D&D. D&D is my first and main game, but I want to play CoC and BESM and DC Heroes something fierce. (If I could find a group of people who wanted to play Tenchi Muyo! it would be about the coolest thing in the world :) )

some of us do it on both boards.

i tell the folks at Dragonsfoot the same thing i tell the people here.

OD&D(1974) is the only true game. All the other editions are just poor imitations of the real thing. :D

but yeah, Dragonsfoot has d02 fans that go there to poke the hornets nest.
