The two rooms I reserved in the Marshall Center at USF were approved this morning, so we have a back up if we get too many signed up to fit at Comics Club. These rooms can easily accomodate two RPGs each with a DM and up to 8 players per game. So, we have a back up.

NOTICE: Merlin's Books is not going out of business, but is being sold to one of the distibutors who used to supply them. All indications are that it will remain a hobby store. According to the owner, the sale is supposed to go through in about two weeks.

Good News!!!

Actually, I keep getting more information. Another hobby store onwer (Paul from Arena Games) inquired about buying Merlin's (he could not get the owner's phone number, so had to e-mail her).

Paul said he was interested but would not consider making an offer unless she answered several questions. After three days, she had not contacted him -- but a chief distributor for Merlin's did. The guy said he heard Paul WAS BUYING MERLIN'S and wanted to let him know how much debt Merlin's had with his distributor. He said the Merlin's owner told him Paul was the buyer and would assume her debt.

Obviously, Paul said he had not made any offer and the guy said the distributor was then going to press forward with a lawsuit to recoup months of unpaid invoices.

So, based upon this (admittedly second-hand knowledge), I'd say the future of Merlin's is -- at best -- shaky. They recenlty posted a sign that says "We are NOT going out of business, so please don't ask!"

BTW -- I'm still trying to make sure I can commit to run a game of d20 Modern. I'll know soon and if I can, I will take whatever space I can get...
