I read it and it does have its moments, but so often I feel like I can't follow what is going on. Maybe I just don't get it, but he tends to jump around so much that I often have no idea what is going on.

But I still read it for some reason. :)

I like the premise of Erfworld, but I admit it does get hard to follow and a bit disjointed from time to time. Wanda-as-dominatrix I'm actually finding kind of funny - she may be the ONLY character in the whole strip with more than one dimension to them! Parson may indeed show up as such, but so far, it's all a game to him, even when his life is threatened, so there's not much to him.

I'm still following, and that's saying a lot as it is.

And how could an audience of gamers *possibly* be expected to get a WoW reference??

I don't know. I'd say that there are more than a few Tabletop and Pen'n'Paper players who actively avoid WoW and other MMORPGs, for one reason or another (or all of them).

I really enjoy erf, but i can't quantify why. Maybe its because i live and die by those type of strategy games, and because i get all the pop culture. or maybe its cause i just really enjoy the characters and strangely superdeformed yet western art style.

i dunno. It's not for everyone, but it's certainly working for me.

QFT. Err... QFO?

Actively avoiding MMORPGs doesn't necessarily mean you avoid comical humor. The Leroy Jenkins video has been plastered on YouTube forever and is more about how hours of careful planning can run amok in a matter of seconds, which I think anyone who has been in any sort of fantasy tactical situation can appreciate - I found it funny before I ever played a single minute of WoW :)

I definitely agree with talinthas - it's not for everyone, but I like those little references. But then again, I'm an RPG pop culture junkie :p

The contrast between the planning and the execution. I find it hilarious.

Right. The video is very funny -- thanks, Sejs.

What the comic did -- not that funny. (Referencing someone "going in to attack" while missing the amusing element, planning vs. execution.)

Well, now I know the Leroy reference...personally I find that video to be a waste of time, not humorous, but I've seen reasonably intelligent people (including myself) tard out over dumber things on youtube so Erfworld's reference ends up being funnier than the video itself to me. That's the thing about humor...sometimes the most ridiculously dumb things will catch certain people in just the right way to send them into giggle-fits.

I think a lot of Erfworld's strengths and weaknesses are in trying to milk an offbeat approach to humor that leaves most of the humor falling flat on most people, but most people if they keep reading it will every so often get that special moment where something really tickles them. At least I get just enough amusement out of it that it's worth swinging by when I'm there for OotS, despite it's high yawn to snicker ratio.
