Fire! (Dunamin judging)

OOC: Ok, I guess the board's back up. Still haven't heard from Korthala (Solitaire) or Voda Vosa (Mri'Thas). Unless there are any objections, tomorrow I will pick a starting position for Mri'Thas and start without Solitaire. I'll allow her to jump in later if she ever shows up, saying she was lagging behind and just arrived.

Ok, let's begin!

I've chosen to give the fourth healing potion to Mri'Thas, since his position on the roof will allow him to jump down into the courtyard, or into the alley and then into the building where Ts'iri is, so he's positioned to come to anyone's aid.

That means the 4 potions are held by Ts'iri, Goeth, Kama'zer and Mri'Thas.

When do I post?

You can post out of character at any time (to post tactical advice or just kibbitz), and you can also have your character speak or make gestures any time. But please don't post your main action until it's your turn - otherwise it gets hard to keep track of who has posted and whose actions are up-to-date.

Except: if your action is coming soon and you know you won't be able to post for a while, it's better to post an action early than to make everyone wait. If you do that, please be sure to give enough information that I can change your action if necessary, in case things have changed before your actual turn starts. Even better would be to post several possible actions. (For example, "If beetle 1 is still alive on my turn, do this. If not, do that.")

After each player's action, I'll post a new map and summary showing what's happened. If your action is next and you don't need to wait for me to post the outcome, go ahead and post your action without waiting. (For instance, if the attack before you obviously missed, or if it only would affect something on the other side of the battlefield.)

If you get a chance to take an action between turns (such as an opportunity attack, or if the warlord uses a power that lets you take an action) I'll go ahead and roll the action for you if it's obviously a good thing to do. If there's any question, I'll ask if you want to take it.

The important thing is: don't rush ahead to post actions while the tactical situation might still change, but we've got a lot of people so try not to make them wait.

And if you aren't going to be able to post for a while, please let me know so I can NPC your character until you're back.

What do I post?

Please use the following format for your posts:

Sample post said:
In-character flavour text describing your actions.

[sblock=OOC]
Move: What you do with your move action.
Standard: What you do with your standard action.
Minor: What you do with your minor action.

Any saving throw rolls you have to make go here.
[/sblock]

Of course, put "Move", "Standard" and "Minor" in the actual order you want to take them. If you're not taking one type of action, put "None", don't just leave it out. (So that I'll know you decided not to use an action and didn't just forget.)

Please make all rolls using Invisible Castle. Include a comment showing what the roll is for, and what bonuses are included (so that I can easily tell if you forgot one). For example, if you normally have +4 to hit, and you're attacking Beetle 1 with combat advantage, type "1d20+6" for your roll, and include a comment like, "Attack on Beetle 1 (with +2 combat advantage)".

If you're moving, include the exact square you want to end in, and if there's any doubt about how to get there (such as if you could choose between two paths, or want to circle around an enemy to avoid OA's), post the squares you pass through on the way as well. Remember to specify if you're running, crawling or shifting instead of using a basic "Move".

In general, please include as much detail as you can with your actions so that I can tell exactly what you're trying to do. For example, here's a great move action: "Move: Move to A6, next to Beetle 1, so that I can flank with Solon and I'm still within 5 squares of Kama'zer for Inspiring Word." Now if you miscounted and can't actually reach A6, or made a typo and A6 isn't actually the square you want, I'll be able to tell and change your action to fit your goals without having to slow everything down asking you what you meant.

The terrain:

The terrain details are in this post - be sure to look back at it often.

The enemies:

Here are the defenses for each enemy, so you can tell whether an attack hits or not. That will make it easier to write your flavour text without guessing and save a lot of confusion:

Code:
                 AC   Fort   Refl   Will
Gnome Arsonist   16   13     15     13
Fire Beetles     13   13     12     11
Imps             17   15     15     15

And here are their initiative rolls: the Gnome Arcanist rolled 9, and the Fire Beetles rolled 8. To keep things simple, all the beetles will move on the same init.

In the status block, I'll list how many hp each PC has left, but how much damage each enemy has taken (to keep their total hp a secret). If they're bloodied, the hp or damage will be in red, otherwise green. I will also highlight the initiative of the person whose turn it is in red:

Focusing his mind for a moment, the githyanki propels himself up in the air to land on the roof of the nearby building. He studies the situation for a moment an chants a simple spell to the gnome arcanist, sending two orbs of force flying towards him. Both projectiles strike the fey creature in the chest, ripping off clothes and flesh. "You and your vermin will perish" Mri'Thas states stoically

[sblock=OOC]
Move: use Telekinethic leap to jump to Q 14
Minor: Study area for a moment to locate enemies.
Standard: Use Magic Missiles on Gnome Arcanist. 17 to hit, for 10 force dmg

As Mri'Thas's missiles strike the gnome's chest, it cries out, "They're hurting me! You said you would protect me! You said if I set the fires, you would saave meee!" Mri'Thas stares around, in case it's talking to something other than the voices in its head, but sees nothing.

However, as he watches he sees the air around the gnome become blurry. The gnome's form, and objects near it, seem to swim, as if from a heat haze. He blinks and squints, and is able to focus briefly on all of the swarming beetles, but the haze will make them harder to target.

[sblock=\Status]
Mri'Thas moves to Q14, and make a Perception check to spot hidden enemies, not spotting any. (I won't link to rolls like this, so that it's not obvious whether you failed or there's just nothing to see.) Then he hits the gnome for 11 damage.

I forgot to mention that the gnome's aura power: "Heat Haze (Illusion) aura 5; the gnome arsonist and all allies in the aura gain concealment". Right now this affects the Arsonist, Beetle 1, Beetle 3, Beetle 5 and Beetle 6. (It doesn't benefit Beetle 2 and Beetle 4 because it doesn't reach through walls.) Technically that means the magic missile should have missed (-2 to attack due concealment) but it was my mistake so I'll let that pass.

The big double doors at Q3/R4 are open, the rest are closed.

Kama'zer moves forward through the doors while drawing her sword. Moving up to the nearest fire beetle, she swings hard at the bug, but it skitters away from her strike...

OOC: since this is a tough fight, I'm going to point out things that I think you could optimize. If you don't want to be lectured at, just ignore the "Tactics" blocks.

[sblock=Tactics]
Your Basic Attack is supposed to be a last resort - if you're ever using it, you're probably not making the best use of your powers.

Here, you could have used Viper's Strike, even though there are no allies next B7 right now - Soldier will be going before the beetle, so he could move adjacent and then the beetle would provoke an OA if it shifts.

Or you could have used a Charge action instead of move and then attack, which would be the same Basic Attack but with a +1 to hit. (Wouldn't make a difference on this roll, but that +5% hit chance can be important.) Lots of people forget about Charge.
