Fireball

Does the spell Fireball expand around objects like columns? For example if 'x' is where the Fireball detonates, 'C' is a stone column and '0' is a person, do they get hit by the Fireball or not?

x
C
0

I think they do but I would like to know what everyone else thinks. I'll give me reasoning after a few others have replied.

More exactly, check page 151 of the PHB. Cover grants +2 on Ref saves, but not against spread effects. Fireball is specifically used as an example of the latter.

He is toast. Spread wraps around the column and he roasts.

BTW, the spell starts at a grid intersection, not in the center of a square.

Yeah, that was the ruling I was using, based on the fact that it was a spread effect.

I was aware that it starts at a grid intersection, rather than a square. It was just easier to post the "diagram" in my post in that simple form. Thanks for letting me know just in case I didn't though. :)
