Gods in Wizards???

For myself, I can't see what an essentially human tavern in a rather rough and tumble port town would offer these gods. Of course, that can be extended to other things on down the line and it becomes abundantly clear why we really can't do anything about them unless they are violating the CoC.

I suppose I could get really hardnosed and say that such characters are violating the Tavern setting and being disruptive in that manner, but that is essentially picking on one group and if I did that I would have to do it to a whole lot of groups that fit the same set of restrictions, some of which are well played.

It comes back to the fact that we cannot and do not try to control the characters people create and play as long as they are within the CoC. That being said, Kat has it right when she says she can choose who and what sort of characters she wants to interact with. Everyone has the same choice. If you don't like those characters, pay them no mind.

Hey thanks eveyone for sharing in this thread. There are definately many opinions of the subject of course but all of them valid with many great points.

hehe so i'm totaly out of ideas for the next fad....anyone got something better then disgruntled mimes?

I know, I know!! How about....

regular people?? Normal folk who just happen to frequent the tavern after a long day working the field?

*ducks the rotten fruit* Hey.. it was an idea! *gets hit with rotten tomato* Ewww

I remember there was some guy who was wandering around with a distinctly normal kind of person who even had a disclaimer at the bottom saying: "Note: He is not a god, demi-power or otherwise superbeing, he is a regular guy and if someone sticks a sword in him he will die."

For some reason I always felt a nagging compulsion to test the validity of that claim.

However that being said I know at least one character now and have known a few in the past who are "regular" people with no adventure abilities, no magic abilities, etc. And a well played regular person is infinitely preferably to RP with than a poorly or even so-so player uberpower.

hmm, on the topic of god-moders and god characters, Their are alot of them and usually they tend to leave me alone. perhaps cause most of them tend to be male, and look for those women to impress. But, when im in the same room as one, or even a three or four, I tend to just ignore them the best I can without using the lists. But if their type gets out of hand and interfers with my own conversations, well...you know. *drops an iggy grenade*...and as for my own characters, (four in all) three of them are just normal humans who arnt spectacular. sure they have one thing they are good at, like my pirate. exceptionally rude, and fun loving. just an example....well..uh...that's past my two cents worth..more like three..and a half......

Not funny. I...hate...mimes. And clowns. Maybe because when I was little, I saw that "clown=under-the-bed-graps-you-with-striped-arms-and-legs" movie. Dammit.

Aaanyway, I'm...kinda..wondering this. Exactly why do people godmode, or play gods? To be honest...I'd react better if someone kicked sand in my eyes, rather than:

"___________ creates an enegy field the diametre of the arena so hahahaha and it slowly comes down and them BAM pwnz j00 in teh face!"

Ugh. I hate that. That and "Vampires not taking vampire weaknesses". I mean....

nevermind...

I won't try and turn this into a "omg wat's wit godmoderz?!" thread, even though my trend or wave-starting abilities are equivlent to that of a paralyzed leaf. And my fad dib's on whatever good movie comes out next with action and style found in the main character...kinda like Dante, from Devil May Cry.

Anyway, just my two lira...which are worth...erm...a scraping of the copper offa penny.

Lebanese economy's awful, heh.

...hope I don't sound elitist, xenophobic, or basically a jerk with my comments in this thread. I'm not tryin' t'be mean...

Clowns...

:(

the first person to even PUT a clown near me DIES

...childhood fear becomes a full blown adult phobia on a disastrous scale... I won't even recount the time my friends thought it'd be funny to take me to the circus as a "present" and exactly what transpired...

:: shivers ::

:( ...c...l...o...w...n...s....b...r....r...r...:(

Let's see.. I'm going to take a bit of a stab at Dante's question about God Mongers and why people do it. When people bring in a new character, be it a person who is completely new to the site, or someone looking for something new. It tends to be very difficult to get to know new people unless you are very creative and even then sometimes it does not work. I believe people view these God Mongers as something that will Gain them attention. "I am the True God of Love.... " Unfortunately, that just makes me roll my eyes and want to gag. Like Jardel said, it is much nicer to play with a really nice regular person than one who can make anything they want appear, have powers up the wazoo and can do anything. I like a person who's got real abilities, who can do some things and can't do some things.

I saw a really great character on the other day. This character seemed regular, with a great charactre flaw. (The one who's character I'm going to describe will know who I am referring to. I'm purposely keeping out names for identity sake ;) The way this character was presented was what I felt to be very orginial. Someone who worries people will discover this flaw. The character had to handle a small mishap that resulted due to this flaw but the player did an excellent job playing the character. I found myself having one of the most fun days playing with this character. :)

Other characters are interesting to watch if they have a great storyline. I love "hearing" characters recount things happening to them off the site. I spent an evening taking with a character one night about an act that happened due to being enraged and the feelings the character had about it. I'd much rather chat to "people" rather than those "godly" types.

I do have to agree with what was said before, however, in the fact that even those "god" types can be great fun to play with if they are played correctly. Moondyre, for example, was a great character to chat with and even though she was the daughter of gods, she was still "normal" in the way she was presented. She didn't go about saying "I'm a child of a god, bow down to me" but just said it the same as if I would say so-and-so is my mother. Very nicely done, IMHO.

Sadly, there will always be fads - weres, vamps, Gods, deamons, hell fiends and so forth. The true test for those playing characters of said fads is to play them fairly and to have a good time doing it. Make your character able to be hurt. Make them take a hit or three. Reesa, for example, is a fairly powerful character in a way. However, she is always getting herself into troubles and facing the end of swords or fists. She's been beaten by Viles aplenty, tormented by Malicki, killed by Zugran... it's a long story for her. My main rule is this (and this is because I'm a WizO but anyhow.. ) you can do what you want to Reesa, except kill her, and only when I am not on duty. If you want to have your mean character take on Reesa, no problem.. but only at the end of my shift or when it's done. I can't let you beat Reesa to a pulp where she becomes unconscious when I have just started hosting hehe..

For my other characters... I have some that are very important to me and I will not allow them to die. However, I'll allow all sorts of things to happen to them. I've had them mind controlled, posessed, beaten, tortured, tormented, etc, etc. I try to be fair and do what I can to allow the other guy to have a good time. I'll go into a fight but I find myself quickly discouraged if everything I attempt to do is met with failure. If I can't get a few good hits in, I don't want to participate any more and often just let whatever bad thing happen, take the character out, and don't play that one for a while.

*blinks at her post* Whoops.. I'm awfully chatty tonight... hehe... sorry folks.. Uh.. how about them Goldfish people? *whistles innocently and wanders off*
