Grease

One of my players took the daily wizard spell Grease from arcane power. It seems a bit over powered for a 1st level spell, unless I'm interpreting it wrong.

Is moving within the zone the same as entering the zone? If not, then once you're in there its just difficult terrain. That's fine.

If yes, then I see some potential problems - Once a monster is in there, there's no way to get out. Hit=prone, miss=slide monster back to the middle of the zone.

There was a discussion on this here about 2 weeks ago. There, I claimed you can only do one reaction on another creature's turn, and thus only one Grease Attack against each creature each turn. Makes things somewhat more balanced.

But the bottom line is, Controllers need to be able to control, or they are useless.

The attack is a free action, not a reaction. I agree with Nightson, the zone is a single entity, and each square doesn't count as an individual zone.

It still works as a decent control spell, especially for blocking off hallways. Monsters enter, on a miss you bounce them back and force them to try again. On hit, they're prone and have to get up and walk through difficult terrain. It also helps that allies are safe from the attacks.
