GURPS - a matter of style and setting.

Are you set on GURPS, or are you just looking for a new style/setting? Even without d20 modern, you've got d20 Call of Cthulhu, d20 Spycraft, d20 Godlike, d20 Wierd Wars, d20 Deadlands, d20 Dragonstar...

Plenty of new settings without breaking out a brand new system and trying to learn it.

Back, systems evangelist! You'll not get this one! Take your d20 elsewhere!

Besides, we GURPS fans rarely if ever get asked to hype our favorite system :p

Allow us our moment

GURPS Goblins - Playing Goblins in a Victorian Setting

It's reassuring to know, DungeonKeeperUK, that even you guys in the UK don't know the difference between Victorian and Georgian England. ;) (The setting is in the 1830's, which is, evidently, Georgian, and not yet Victorian.)

LOL! Actually, I don't have a "favorite" system, I just find that lately I don't have time or inclination to learn new systems. Therefore, anything that can be done d20, I'm all for it. Modular add-ons, like Cthulhu-esque characters, or Ken Hood's Grim-N-Gritty Hit Points system give it the flexibility to cover other genres besides super-heroic fantasy these days with just minor new rules additions.

So, I don't begrudge you your GURPS! Just pointing out the obvious (yet seemingly missed) point that you don't need to change systems to change settings or style.:)

Hehehehe never realised it was the 1830's.. not that that would have mattered, my history is awful.. was always more interested in the murkier side of history.. plagues, disease, sewers.. I'm kinda strange that way...
But I was sure Queen Victoria was mentioned in teh book..

Ta anyway.. :)

There's nothing wrong with GURPS that a d20 GURPS couldn't fix.

What, no love for Reign of Steel?

I'd also recommend GURPS: Reign of Steel. It's a very nice post-apocalyptic setting where robots have taken over the world, and the remnants of humanity are struggling against them. Technomancer is cool as well. Something else that I've been considering is a biopunk campaign - like cyberpunk, but people have been genetically modified instead of getting cyber. GURPS Biotech would be the sourcebook for such a thing.

I'd start with the Lite rules, then, if you like those, pick up the core book and go with that. GURPS can require quite a large investment, but you can get by with just that one book if you want. Comp1 is a large compilation of skills, advantages, and disadvantages from years of supplements. Useful stuff, but if you've got a good eye for balance, you should be able to figure out point costs for most things without it.

(Incidentally, while Ken Hite be the man, Dave Pulver isn't too far behind him. Reign of Steel rocks on toast, as do all the other tech books he did.)

Okay I will give you a chance to prove this, before I send the Inquisition!!!!

Make me a Lensman, medic.
And a Lensman scientis.

Made me a genetically enhanced delphin, capable of piloting a FTL spaceship.

Make me a Nomad Horsearcher, and shepherd.
Make an an Supercharakter, the scale from Wild, X-Men, to four colours.
