D&D 5E hafrogman's Hoard of the Dragon Queen (full)

SO I could be bland some more and Eldritch blast the nearest kobold like normal OR I could attempt to cast hold person on the flying kobold causing him to become paralyzed and hopefully fall to his death. Think that's a reasonable idea?

EDIT: I thought that was something Venn would do. haha

We've got cultists as well as kobolds. We haven't fought the cultists yet, but the kobolds seemed to drop with one or two attacks at most. Carad has a bow, he can probably deal with the flying kobold. The main thing is to clear the area in front of the keep while tying down the rest of the enemies from getting there. Hold Person would synergize really well with someone with a melee attacker with multiple attacks, as each attack would be made with Advantage and be a critical hit to boot. That's... a lot of potential damage.

My plan since Carad can use magic was to have Venn as a sort of synergetic damage dealer. I took none of the usual burst and AOE type spells, I instead vied for high damaging support spells. Such as hold person. For now Ill hold onto it, not sure if the leader is even that powerful to expend one of my two spell slots.

You know, I've never seen a character with low DEX like Venn. So this is really interesting for me. I have no armor or speed to think of, yet hit like a train. (FYI this is my first time as a player like ever, ive always DMed) But this initiative thing sucks haha.

I've never played a character with a sub-10 dex before either, but figured I would with a heavy armor character. I actually like how it works with Morgan, who I figure would want to have a lay of the land to assess where she was needed to support the soldiers in the squad.

It hasn't been too bad (then again, I haven't had to make a Dex save yet, LOL).

Carad has zero damaging spells. Since he is fey in nature, his spells would be more to mess with the minds (i.e enchantment or illusion).

Air support! Someone please blast that flying kobold!!! ;-)

Coming right up! The sleep spell didn't get it so looks like it is back to bow and arrow.

I'm not too worried about the area damaging spells. It would be nice, but if we have enough people with battlefield control spells going, we should be okay. With three casters, it shouldn't be too problematic. Entangle and Sleep have worked pretty well so far.
