In the Annotated Chronicles, it explains that they wanted to call them kinder (kin-der), but they were afraid people would read it as kinder (kind-er).

:)

So, they did not want them to be kind... ;)

Interesting.

I didn't answer the poll, because quite frankly, if I'm getting rid of one of the small races, I'd get rid of gnomes before halflings.

Halflings at least seem to have a unique place in a campaign world - gnomes are either skinny dwarves or a whole race of bards(?).

But YMMV. :)

The description in the Player's Handbook is not good. Because , I was imaginating the halfling more like small humans. But I change my conception of them with Bad Axe games's HoHF: Halfling, with the Prc description. It gave me a lot of ideas.

And the description of the gnome is even worst. The only thing they say in the PH is that they play tricks and jokes. "Wow, I whanna play a joker" A player try it in a game and he whent flying on a cataplut.
But the description in the Races of Stone is lots better. They almost never talk about jokes and tricks, with this book I don't whant to kill them all, just a lot. :p

besides everyone knows Cha is the dump stat for halflings in the new edition. and thus why they taunt yet again.

It is? And how do they taunt w/o a decent Cha?

Besides, the halfing in our current campaign would do rather less well with Cha as dump stat. :)

with low Cha they fail miserably at diplomacy checks ... and the opponent progresses to the next level. from friendly to .... hostile

I've never had gnomes in any of my campaign worlds so they just haven't existed.

I have Hobbits - genteel bucolic farming folk but with a little more to them if pushed. I don't like the D&D halflings (for starters they are too small and spindly - make them the size of six year old children instead of 3 year old children and I might be interested)

I think I, too, will get into the mask-wearing dino riding halflings of Eberron though :)

Cheers

I think its time to change my halflings into money hoarding sharks that have a continental-wide bank and credit empire. My players will probably hate me but I can always say "Hey, they're Swiss Halflings! And you know what that means!" good thing they cannot even say "no" :]

Hey, I based a whole country in the campaign setting I am developing on this kind of halfling!

And I love them as mask-wearing barbarians on dinosaurs. Yay Eberron!

Shilsen is t3h right. :D

Should my character in my current Eberron campaign ever kick the bucket or retire, my next character is going to be a halfling mounted warrior.
