D&D General Hasbro enters gambling deal using Dungeons & Dragons intellectual property

Given it’s for online gambling, I’m now envisioning Pokémon-like battles where you place bets on head to head combats between D&D iconics.

“I’m all in on Redgar versus Tiamat!”

I'm so tired of the pervasiveness of gambling. Seems like every other ad while I'm watching hockey is for online sports betting. It might hit me more than others because my dad was a gambling addict who once lost our house on illegal gambling.
Just ... can't this just be a game that we play with friends and dice?

Games Global's website is 18+, so this should, in theory, not prey upon minors, but it is still feeding on a harmful addiction.

Luckily (?), there are a bunch of different games there already, so this shouldn't be prominent.

That said, it would not surprise me for WOTC to advertise this game themselves, and given how many children already ignore the 18+ exclusion...

“The nine nonduplicative studies identified by our literature search included data collected from more than 7700 adolescents from five different regions of the United States and Canada.”
“This analysis revealed that within a 95 percent confidence interval, between 9.9% and 14.2% of adolescents are at risk of developing or returning to serious gambling problems.”

I mean, D&D is also a "family friendly" property. It's almost like it's trying to get a teenage demographic interested.
I don't like it.
At a bare minimum, it's very tacky.

But every time I've been to a casino, I don't see anyone under 65 anywhere near the slot machines, other than to maybe put in a ritual one dollar that a younger person's coworker asked them to play on their behalf.

Likewise, my understanding is that online sports betting is a huge issue with teens and college students. I haven't heard anything similar about digital slots, which seems to mostly be advertised towards middle aged people, from what I've seen.

I suspect the target audience is, well, ENWorld's posting community, not teens.
