D&D General Hasbro enters gambling deal using Dungeons & Dragons intellectual property

While everyone around them was making money off of their IP with Kickstarter etc.
no, not off their IP, the IP is excluded from the OGL / CC. They put stuff into the SRD that they would probably not be able to defend as their own in court anyway.

Others tried and lost more than they ever expected, so the best solution was to simply draw a line in the sand and never have it tested rather than finding out that actually you own even less than you think you do.

And don’t pretend that all that material being produced for D&D is not helping D&D…

I’m just pointing out facts; not trying to change minds.
I’d argue you claim is not a fact to begin with

I'm not pretending anything.
Just the facts.

I'm so tired of the pervasiveness of gambling. Seems like every other ad while I'm watching hockey is for online sports betting.

Personally, I worry less about the online casinos and sports betting that clearly and openly identify as gambling, and more about the loot boxes and freemium games that get people into gambling through stealth and deception (which is now present in everything from AAA titles to phone games). But I suppose we're just debating our preferred poisons.

This. Loots boxes and freemium games are how you teach young people to be older gamblers.

And it's in games and toys aimed at toddlers.

Go shop your local big store aisle if you don't believe me. Random loot-box style baggies of collectible are everywhere. (OK, maybe those aren't lootboxes; but whatever. Gambling.)

Of course you would, that's just what you do.
I have no skin in the game either way. Whatever makes you happy.

I am pretty sure this is aimed at exploiting teens (the fresh and exciting new demographic.) Teens and gambling mix like nitro and glycerin (lots of damages.)
It's slot machines. Casinos police them ruthlessly. The moment by 13 year old kid steps on the floor some security guy is waiving her back. I don't think it's going to be an issue.

This also isn't the first D&D slot machine, just the latest. Many years ago I posted here about one I found in Vegas. These are not my videos but it does show three slot machines [Edit: I found at least 7, going back to at least 2009] from 2017 and 2015 and unsure on last, and I believe there was an earlier one than all of these that was decommissioned that I used to see back in the late 90s at the Vegas Hilton (Star Trek Experience hotel):

Just "Dungeons and Dragons"

Dungeons and Dragons: Conquests & Treasures

Dungeons and Dragons: Fortress of Fortunes which is from at minimum 2009 but very likely earlier (possibly much earlier):

EDIT: As I scroll through Youtube I find more and more D&D slots. I now have no idea how many there were but it looks like at least 7 probably more. I saw Crystal Caverns. Here is Icewind Dale:

Is this genuinely going to be using D&D properties for gambling purposes? I am pretty open minded about things but gambling is something that I don't think D&D should be getting involved in at all
I think this is the third iteration of a D&D slot machine. The first two were pre-5e. I think the first one was late-TSR era? Could have been 3e era. Unsure.

Legislators at least seem more concerned about this than they do online sports gambling.
