WotC Hasbro gains big time from D&D, Magic, Monopoly, and Baldur's Gate 3

I don't know about MS re acquisitions but the reputation of big publishers running well regarded companies is not great. Hower, if one is selling one to a public quoted company that company is likely to fall prey to the usual things that destroy the creativity of studios so sell for the most money.
There are other considerations: the future of.employees, wtc. Not all companies are the same, publicly traded or not.

Hasbro will make more money from Beyond this year than they will make if they hit they high end of that licensing projection for BG3.
what high end? the 61M is not the high end, it was a ‘will probably easily make at least’, and that is licensing, quite a bit different from the profit Larian makes from it, so comparing apples to oranges.

Printing money off the back of past glory. Pretty much any IP holders dream.
 

The game is for everybody, but WotC focus is on the 12-24 market. Whi h is better for everyone involved in the long run anyways.

By that logic I'm long ago not the target market, yet I still enjoy much of what they produce. Not that I've ever gone in big on modules, but otherwise I haven't had an issue. Maybe I'm just really immature? Or maybe, just maybe grouping people by age demographic has a tendency to not have a lot of meaning for this type of product. Nah. I'm just immature. ;)

Well, the meaning is in the aggregate, which is where business decisions get made. Tons of individuals are all over the place, but teens and teens are most players.

Obviously if you want a sustainable market you need to sell to younger people or you turn into Harley Davison. I just disagree that age demographics have all that much to do with designing a game. 🤷‍♂️

Then again marketing for most things is mostly smoke, mirrors and guesswork.

Tastes and interests often vary fairly considerably between age groups: what was pop culture fantasy in 1975 is different from 2015, and at a given time people born and formed in different times will have different tastes. Like my kids thinking Star Wars is boring.
 

The comparison between sales of the 2024 PHB and BG3 should be interesting.

Why? Two completely different media, largely unrelated consumers. Why would you compare them in any way?

Talk about apples and oranges. But sure I can see the edition war loading of the cannons now. :erm:
