WotC Hasbro gains big time from D&D, Magic, Monopoly, and Baldur's Gate 3

Except no. Because the video game industry is such that it gets mainstream hype in a way that board games and ttrpgs never will.
not sure, so far no TTRPG got to the point of selling 10M PHBs in a year, not even close… and not every game gets hyped either, you have to work on that

So to me there is nothing that says it could not happen for a TTRPG, it’s just that none ever got to this ‘critical mass’ this fast

Oh, they point at revenue numbers for Beyond being in the tens of millions quarterly. They are sharing real data with real investors, but EN World always thinks WotC is lying in legally binding documents.
but that is sales and subscriptions. So that is what, 1M subscribers? It certainly is nowhere near 10M

Again, I am not suggesting it being BG3 didn't have an impact, but you can't just ignore the extended, responsive Early Access period or Larian's track record or the shock value hype machine, from the initial grotesque announcement trailer to the bear-sex.

Let me put it another way: if D&D and the Forgotten Realm were the main drivers, Honor Among Thieves would have done significantly better than it did.
That Early Access was largely driven by D&D hype.

I didn't see Honor Smong Thieves in theaters, because I don't see theaters ad physically sage. BG3 isn't held back by that.

Was it? I think it was driven by "Baldur's Gate" hype -- that is, being a long awaited sequel to a beloved game.

So once it came to streaming, it set the world on fire?
It’s doing fairly well in streaming. Far better than I thought it would after theaters. Less than I think it deserves.

I wonder if BG3 improved that? I know my son wants to watch it now.
