Hellboy-movie...comic...real world?

Okay, I've seen the great looking trailers for the Hell boy movie, and I know that the movie was based on a comic book.

But last night I was watching FX and a show called Investigative Journal came on 'exposing' something called the B.P.R.D. (Beaureu of Paranormal Research and Defense). This tied into a guy who's grandpa worked there and this guy thought Hellboy was real. The program also showed a video of a girl who could appearently generate flames and not be burned by them.

Not until after the show did I remember in the Hellboy movie trailers that there was a female weilding blue flames (in the video on this IJ show, the flames were orange like normal fire).

So I'm now wondering if anyone else has ever heard of the Hellboy legend being for real as this show seemed to suggest, or if it was a carefully disguised ad for the movie itself. I remember they did something similar before the first X-men movie called "Mutantwatch".

I just checked the guide data on my TiVo and the show is described as a behind the scenes look at the comic book inspired movie. So I would say it's a cleverly disguised behind the scenes/ad for the movie. :) Sounds cool and I've got it scheduled to be recorded now though. :)

They did the same thing on ABC for "Kingdom Hospital." I thought it was a cool conceit, though it didn't inspire me to watch the show. I'm looking forward to Hellboy though.

As far as the Hellboy special, the same thing was done with X-Men and the 'mutant menace'.

Lars von Trier's Riget/The Kingdom, which he did for Danish tv. Both parts are available on tape. King hasn't even bothered to change the characters' names! What a hack!

While I haven't seen either of them, after a quick look at IMDB, it seems very obvious that Stephen King isn't making any claims that it is his original idea. It says right at the top "Stephen King's take on the masterpiece series by Lars von Triers." Doesn't seem like he is claiming he came up with the idea, just that he wrote the US version. Given how often US tv broadcasts foreign shows, somebody needed to write it, so they might as well get a name like Stephen King to attract viewers.

True, but it will be teh suXXXO4z. We are talking about something that got the almost-unheard of rating of 8.9 at IMDB, with over 1600 voters.

But the King versioni will be teh Suxxxorz. Just as Rose Red was a horrible rip-off of The Legend of Hell House.

Hmm... regarding "Kingdom Hospital"... I have never seen the original "Kingdom", and doubt seriously that it is even available in the US market. That said, I have watched every episode of this fantastic show since its premiere a month or so back, and love it. Given the commercial realities of US broadcast television, I await its cancellation notice every show, but will enjoy it totally until then! :D

I would seriously be interested in watching the original version, if an English language version is available. I presume that the surreal qualities are a direct take from the original source.

On a related note, calling Stephen King a "hack" is... uninformed... at best. His body of work stands very tall on its own merits, and he clearly credits the original writers in every "Kingdom Hospital" episode.
