Help my 12 hp wizard (lvl 4)

welby

First Post
My current wizard (necromancy) has no con bonus, and as such I have 12 hit points at level 4. And if that's not bad enough, my AC is 12 (mage armor is in an opposed school). I'm feeling like anything that wanted to kill me, could, and it's just by the DM's mercy that I am alive. But I'm bound to get caught in some area effect spell or trap eventually. Long story short, I'm feeling pretty frail.

Help my wizard become "safer"! Opposed schools are conj and enchantment. Assume I can use 3rd level spells (I'll be 5 soon enough) and can purchase or craft items appropriate for my level.

So far I've figured out to use false life and vampiric touch to gain some temporary hps (do temp hps stack?).

you will probably want to pick up improved toughness at some point, and always upgrade your con boosting item as much, and as soon, as possible.

At your level you can make yourself a con boosting item.. it will be a bit rough on your cash flow, and it is only 4hp right now, but it is definately worth it even then! ;)

You could even try to get reincarnated if the dm will allow your new forms con to give you hp.

False life is definately your friend. As is mage armor perhaps. Only 4 hours a day each, so plan ahead!

Instead of pumping up your hp, you can also try to find ways not to get hit: Shield. Greater/Invis. Mirror Image. Blur. Displacement. The total defense action if you get stuck in melee.

Personally, I would never play a d4 class with < 14 Con, but that's just me. ;)

Sadly, none of those help against area of effect spells.

Came back to say another thing though, cloaks of resistance are also very good. If you make the save you are that much closer to not dieing.

Edit: you may wind up having to take a level or two of classes outside of mage :( It sucks I know, but with a very low con, and a very low hd, you are simply in trouble for any sort of hp damage.

I've had fun with a 1st level barbarian going wizard! Nothing like moving fast and when it's the end of the day and I'm out of spells and mad about it...I rage! A raging wizard with a quarterstaff is a fearsome (if not all that dangerous) thing! :p

Most of the things you can do don't work all day, but it's better than nothing:

Mirror image is your friend! I have/had two characters who owe their lives to this spell several times over.

While you can't get mage armor, you can get shield (and it protects from magic missle, too)

Bear's endurance will give you 8 more hp, cat's grace will raise your AC by 2.

Invisibility gets you out of tight spots.

False life actually works for hours.

In addition, you should get items that increase your AC or HP. Con and Dex boosters, Bracers of Armor, Rings of Protection, Amulets of Natural Armor, Ring of Force Shield.

But don't forget your saves....

False life is good, too

Get a metamagic rod of empower spell to power those false life spells.

Buy an amulet of health +2/4 as soon as you can.

Resist energy is probably a good spell for you, as well.

Bye
