Help with Crafting Rules

I have a (probably) simple question regarding the creating rules.

The rules for crafting say that the crafter needs to spend 1/3 the cost of the item in raw materials. So if a player is crafting a mithral weapon, does that mean that the player pays 1/3 the cost of the weapon, 1/3 the cost of MW, and 1/3 the cost of raw mithral?

1/3 the cost of the weapon and 1/3 the cost of raw mithral.

The MW cost gets absorbed by the mithral cost.

I seriously recommend 'taking 10' while working on the item too.

If you have a +15 to your craft check, it should take you 80 weeks to make a greatsword, 40 weeks to make a Longsword.

And folk wonder why only the long lived races make this stuff.

I think its reasonable for a dm to wave the extra time with special materials by making the dc higher, but using the original dcXcheck for time. This way, when your buying a mythril whatever, your paying for expertise, and not time, because if you were paying for time, no way would a chain shirt be 1000ish gold. 80 weeks is nuts in my opinion.

craft in 3rd, imho sucks

But you only pay 1/3 the cost of the mw, because in the case of a mithril sword, mithril is one of the raw materials, to make a mithril sword.

So, anything you craft, does save you 2/3 the cost of the normal item (hopefully)

But by the time your finished making it, your buddies will be arriving back to town, 5 levels higher with a dragons horde of treasure *well probably not, but hey*
