Ahem. I think you are forgetting the greatest rock 'n' roll band on earth... KISS!!!

Yes, they *may* be the greatest rock'n'roll band, but that is only one aspect of music. U2 is overall the greatest band.

rock'n'roll: KISS
pop rock/college rock: Counting Crows
Grunge: Pearl Jam
Funk: P-Funk
Heavy Metal: Metallica or Megadeth, can never decide.
Hair bands: Cinderella
Pure Pop: Madonna (single act)
Celtic: Clannad
europop: texas (yes, Texas they're scots and have nary a country sound to them)
country: Garth brooks or the Dixie Chicks

But what about the Bee Gees?

OK, I can buy the Bee Gees as the greatest pure pop band. Course, if I'm going taht far back, my vote is on ABBA.

Industrial: Lords of Acid or NIN.
Goth: Joy Division, even predates goth, The Cure if I have to really care about genre.

You know, I love goth clubs, and I don't think I'm gonna find any here on the Mexican border...

May? May? Of course they are! (:D).

I agree with you on nearly all of them, though I'm not a big fan of punk, celtic (though one could argue for having Enya in there, I think) or europop. Technically, Shania Twain could be in country too.
