Re: Re: Default Fantasy Sexuality

This thread itself is an example of how people today cannot talk sensibly about sexuality. The original poster asked a question about a particular aspect of the game, and now there are people trumpeting the inclusion of all sorts of hyphenated-sexualities as some sort of panacea for perceived social injustices while others (such as myself) discuss proper statistical methodology while others make remarkably ignorant generalizations about Christianity being anti-sex or cite nonsense about the Catholic Church sanctioning same-sex sexual relationships.

Just to counter your claim about this being nonesense, I have dug up the article I referred to. It can be seen at:
http://www.pflag-nb.org/religion/rcatholic/gay-marriage.html
with the heading:

Catholic Scholar Uncovers Church's Gay Marriage Past
by Peter Moore, 365Gay.com News center in London (excerpt)
A world renowned Roman Catholic scholar says he has found evidence that the church sanctioned and blessed same sex relationships from the Middle Ages to the 19th century.
---
Now, I realise that this is on a PFlag website (Parents/Friends of Lesbians and Gays), so you may consider that biased. This story has been picked up by news sources, such as the Guardian (which AFAIK, is one of the most reputable newspapers in the UK):

Church art 'holds key to gay tolerance'
Same sex relationships should be treated in the manner old church memorials suggest, says historian

And reporting on the same story in Catholic World News

Historian Claims Church Once Allowed Same-Sex Unions
DUBLIN, Jul 20, 01 (CWNews.com) - An Irish historian will claim at a gay studies conference on Saturday that the Catholic Church once performed homosexual marriages, but Catholic groups reject the claim as old news that has been discredited.
---

If you wish to find more details about this story you can do your own searches on Alan Bray. He even wrote a book about the topic:
"Homosexuality in Renaissance England"
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...002-6455562-4000039?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

Now, I also want to point out that I originally wrote:
I read an article last year about a researcher's findings into this. He decided to check out cemetries, and found that up to the mid-1800s same sex couples were being buried together in Catholic graveyards.
In other words, the priests recognised these same sex couples and allowed them to be bureid together on holy ground.

To reiterate - the claim is that the PRIESTS allowed it - not the church.

And if you want to believe that the people who were buried together were "just friends" and nothing more, as the CWNews article would have us believe, go ahead - but I've met too many "good friends" to think that they didn't sleep together. ;-)

Anyway, I think this covers my burden of proof to show that I wasn't just making this up - the articles are real (whether the conclusions are right is a different arguement - and not something I want part of).

And closed it goes. Tangents on the Catholic Church and homosexuality manages to hit religion and politics. Gah.

As always, feel free to email me if you strenuously object. Frankly, I'm disappointed that it had to be closed.
