How do you get +34 in diplomacy as a level 9 PC?

Question said:
But you could turn every encounter to friendly with a full round action right?
Doesn't mean you'll bypass it, though. And they have to be willing to listen to you, at least for the full round. I would wager that in the majority of encounters, it won't help overly much, unless your campaign involves a lot of fights with sellswords or other halfheartedly inspired humanoid opponents.

Friendly to you. Doesn't necesarily mean that they like your friends (kill the others, but bring the persuasive one to my chambers), or that they are going to give up their plans (alright, we won't rob you, but we still need money to feed our village after the crop failed, so if you don't help us we will still rob the next group that comes along).

It kind of depends on what their goals are.

It may mean that they invite you to join them, that they will take care to subdue you (apologizing for the inconvenience), and possibly let you go unharmed once they are done.

You change their attitude towards you, but not their personality or inherent nature.

The bard who convinces the hill giants that he's their new friend and that they shouldn't eat him, may find that they want to keep their entertaining new friend around for a few days (or weeks), whether he wants to leave or not. =)

Did you watch Firefly? If you did, the example of Mal 'recruiting' Jayne might be a good example of diplomacy turning a hostile to friendly :)

Because this is a thread on diplomacy, and because no one has mentioned it yet- I'm gonna shoot off a plug for Rich Burlew's modified diplomacy rules- which I use and love.

And I'm done.
They work okay, for the diplomacy monkeys - but for anyone without max ranks in diplomacy, well, they break after a while:

A 20th level Wizard with a Charisma of 10 wants to get the time of day from his lover (also level 20, with Wisdom 10).

Base DC 35 (15+Level)
-10 (intimate relationship)
+0 (Even, neither reward nor risk)
Final DC: 25

If he offers a Favorable exchange, he can convince her to give him the time of day.... on a roll of 20. If he offers a Fantastic exchange, he needs a roll of 15. If he offers her nothing at all for the information, he simply flat out can't get it, even though it costs her nothing.

In fact, it's possible to really crash the system by asking for something you don't want, and getting it rejected..... followed strictly, of course.

High Diplocmacy checks become more fun when you have a 3 levels of Emissary of Barachiel (BoED). The 3rd level power allows you to change people alignment towards LG if they fail a will save DC= Diplomacy check. And they like it.

You should be able to complete your pre-reqs by level 6, so 3 levels would be 'in the bag' by 9th.

And suddenly I'm sad I never bothered to read that class. I didn't read any of those "Servant/Emiisary of Crappy Diety We Made Up". I'm gonna now.

All sources? This is too easy!

Race Gnome (Midnight Campaign Setting).

Cha: 18 Start +4 Racial +2 For level 4+8 +1 for Speaker Path: Cha 25 (+7)

Diplomacy:
12 Ranks
+7 Charisma
+4 Racial
+3 Skill Focus
+2 Negotiator
+4 Persuasive Speaker
+2 Synergy Bluff
+2 Synergy Sense Motive

+34, and I didn't need your stinkin' magic :p

You could add the Friendly Agent Feat to get +4 to convince enemies of the Shadow to convince them of your allegiance;
Insurgent Spy PrC to get +2 against Shadow agents;
Another +2 for the Inconspicious Feat (again against Shadow forces)

Mindbender is from Complete Arcane, I'd gather that Courtier is from Oriental Adventures.

Rokugan d20, which uses Oriental Adventures.

It's obviously been said 20 times now since I didnt read the whole thread :o but it goes wrong with starting with a gnome. A) cause on principle gnomes suck :p, B) Halfelves got a racial +diplomacy :p

Noone said it. The thread has been quite mature. :p

Read my post. They get +4 Cha and +4 on Diplomacy to boot. Halfhumans can't hold a candle to that.
