I was just wondering how long people play when they get together. My current group plays about 5 hours most every Saturday. When I started playing with this group, we would play for 8 hours most times. We had a marathon session once that lasted for a little over 12 hours. I sure miss those type of games. I'm hoping to get some serious gaming time in at Gen Con!!

We play 4 - 6 hours, depending on what day of the week it is. Our games take place on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons, and the Friday night games tend to run shorter because everyone is tired after a week of work.

I've never done one of those marathon games. I didn't start until I was in my 30s and I just can't stay awake that long anymore. :(

I am not one for the long gaming sessions at gencon. There's too much of a chance you're in a group with some people you really don't click with, or a dm whose trying to push a product instead of focusing on the game. I try to stick with 5 or less hours at the con. My typical game lasts 6 hours but only because two of the people have to go and get back to their children.

Normally, our sessions go around 8 hours, but sometimes they go under and sometimes they go over. I voted 8+ because they probably go over more than under, but it does vary. I think the shortest would be 6 hours. The longest session we've had in a long time probably went around 11 hours, but that's extremely long ever since graduating from college. Back then... well... 10 hours was a short game. ;)

We usually play 4-6 hours. After that I usually need some time to rest, and plan for the next session at least to some extent. But sometimes I have a day where I can just keep going 'cause ideas keep commin' and I could go all day if the players didn't tire.

It would be interesting to see this cross referenced with how often people play. Those who get to play more often might play for less time per session, whereas those who don't get to play very often might play more. I wonder if that's the case. I know back in the day I used to play often and for very long periods of time, but nowadays I feel like I've got to keep going becuase it might be three weeks before I get to play again. If I got to play weekly, I wouldn't push the 8 hours as much...

It would also be interesting to get an idea of how much of the session time is spent in actual play. For example my group gets together around 7ish but usu. doesn't settle down to serious dice rolling until after 8, so the session is 5-6 hours but the actual play time is closer to 4+.

My friday group plays from 8pm to about 2am. Actual game time maybe half that.

Saturday is from 3pm-8pm and we get more gaming in.

Like Aeson, it varies with group, and more hours != more gaming.

One regular group runs 7p-12 or 1 am, gets little done.
One regular group runs 1p-6p, gets quite a bit done.
One regular group runs 7-2am gets a TON done.
Others are irregular, and tend to run 4-6 hours.
