I have... one set of 8 for D&D, 10 10-sided dice for White Wolf, and some assorted dice I've picked up over the years. I've got the d20 I keep in my car "just in case of an emergency" and the "Random DM Fun Die" which is a d4, and is used for miscellaneous stuff, like "Is there a pot with such-and-such flower in this house?" You sing the words "Random DM Fun Die," decide in your head what odds and evens mean, and then roll. It makes players laugh, and in that time you decide what the hades you were doing.
My old roommates had a ton, and one of our players (the barbarian in one campaign and the paladin in the other) often bought new sets to try and shake the Captain Crit-Fumble name he got in a game I wasn't at. So we had some saved up, which doubled as miniatures. I remember some pygmy d6'es that served as whatever baatezu are the globs.
My current roommates are completely different ends of the spectrum. One of them has a ton of dice, but has his favorites in a velvety bag he keeps in the front pocket of his bookbag almost all the time. The other... two Christmases we bought him his first set of dice, after he'd been gaming four years before that. Family didn't like D&D, so he never had anything. Went off to college, family stopped caring, he started buying. So we bought him dice to celebrate after his sophomore year.
I don't own any novelty dice or anything -- I can't rationalize spending 8 bucks on a single die unless it's going to roll some cinematically great critical hits.
I do want a d7, though.
