(IC) Against the Giants PBP Group 1

Caught off guard, the tendrils had dragged Valda down the passage, and although she wrested with the grasping bindings, she was unable to free herself.

OOC:
Sorry about the delay. Things are really busy and it must have slipped my mind. Valda attempts to escape the grapple, getting advanatge from Giant's Might but disadvantage from the roper, cancelling each other out.
Athletics: 1D20+8 = [4]+8 = 12

Bible hacked the tentacles off of Cordit, who grunted her thanks and shuffled out of everyone's way, following Tenibor up the tunnel as Jack backtracked past her. Jack arrived as Bible was rushing to catch up to Valda, who simply couldn't find her footing. As big as she was, the tentacles dragged her down the hallway, stumbling and struggling for freedom. She arrived at an outcropping of rock that in the shadows seemed at first to be a natural protrusion. Then, a gaping maw opened up and sharp teeth pierced her flesh.

With Cordit's shaggy ape-form out of the way, Eoghan and Quinn moved into the tunnel. It was difficult going as rocky root-like tentacles shifted underfoot, leaving debris and grooves in the tunnel floor that were easy to trip over. To make matters worse, the whole tunnel seemed to be alive with writhing tentacles that tried to grab at them. Jack fired his crossbow, but the quarrel just broke over the creature's stony exterior. Eoghan's deep voice rumbled out a poem mixed with ancient magic, but the creature didn't seem to hear. Finally, Quinn threw a small ball of flame over Valda's shoulder. The flames scorched the thing's mouth, but still it continued to chew.

OOC: Sorry about the long wait! Roper bit Valda for 26 damage, but 4 tentacles all failed to wrap anyone else. Quinn did 8 fire. Bible's attacks cut Cordit free, but didn't damage the roper. Note: It's difficult terrain in the tunnels (why you may not have moved to where you posted.)

"Now is not the time to flag, come now, a quick step", Eoghan extorts and starts to play on his bandore a jaunty tune.

He sang a quick verse to the tune in Sylvan, directing his magics at the living stalactite, <Rock for skin, rock for teeth, one must guess, rock to think.>

OOC: Eoghan triggers Mantle of Inspiration (using one Bardic Inspiration). Valda, Bible, Jack, Quinn and Cordit each get 8 tHP, and may use their reaction to move their speed without triggering opportunity attacks.

Vicious Mockery: Wis DC 17 or 5 psychic damage and disadvantage on next attack
Vicious Mockery: 2D4 = [4, 1] = 5

Valda realizes she is not in what one would call a great situation. Nevertheless, she swings as best she can at the thing, determined to make sure that eating her is as arduous as process as possible, although she doesn't think it's very effective.

OOC:
Am currently restrained, so I cannot use the movement offered by Mantle of Inspiration. Making two attacks against the Roper at disadvantage, and have 8 THP, and 8 HP. Unfortunately, not going to be hitting an AC 20
+1 Longsword Attack Rolls: 1D20+9 = [7]+9 = 16
1D20+9 = [6]+9 = 15

+1 Longsword Attack Rolls with Disadvantage: 1D20+9 = [7]+9 = 16
1D20+9 = [3]+9 = 12

Eoghan began a quick-beat tune on his bandore, hoping that it would organize and quicken his allies' movements, but everyone was busy struggling with tentacles and trying to get at the rock-monster to rescue Valda. His taunting was, perhaps, too correct: the rock-creature was so determined to eat Valda, that it ignored him entirely. Valda was only just able to twist sideways at the last to avoid losing her head as the thing's big teeth bit into her shoulder, chest, and side. She felt her breath leave her lungs and the world spun into darkness.

Jack saw it open one black bulbous eye just above its mouth, and he sent his quarrel there. It was a solid blow, and the creature reacted by dropping Valda's limp body to the ground for a moment, as it shook its many tentacles down the tunnel, dropping rock and dirt from the ceiling as it thrashed about, lashing out at the thing that caused him pain. While the others were able to avoid getting caught up in the grasping tentacles, Jack himself was wrapped tightly by them and dragged toward the angry creature's deadly maw.

Quinn sent fire down to burst over the thing, burning some of what may have been its "face". Behind him, he noticed that an eerie smile had formed on the face of the dwarf that they had rescued from the torture-chamber - Harmock, who chuckled to himself as he watched the chaos from a nearby but safe distance.

OOC: Valda is down (from 28 damage)! Tentacle got Jack, restraining & reeling him. He did 31 & Quinn did 14 fire to it, though. @Hriston Bible to go for the round.

Bible barrels forward down the tunnel towards the monster, picking up momentum and launching herself through the air at the creature's great eye.

OOC: She moves 10 feet through the difficult terrain and then jumps another 10 feet to DR-75.
Dexterity check to land in difficult terrain: 1D20+4 = [3]+4 = 7

She misses her footing on her landing, falling prone, but feeling the quickening strains of Eoghan's bandore, she pops to her feet and slashes twice at the eye with her sword.

As her second strike fails to bite on the monster's rocky exoskeleton, Bible leaps back out of range of its deadly maw.

Glancing behind herself, she notices the chuckling dwarf.

"What the @&$ are you laughing about?" she shouts, eyeing the dwarf angrily.

Bible leaped forward and back in the loose, uneven, rocky, and sometimes moving terrain (either because of the tentacles kicking it up, or because it was a tentacle, and not ground at all). She got one good cut in with her sword as it pierced the thick, rock-like hide of the creature, before she jumped away. To her surprise and delight, she landed in the hairy ape-arms of Cordit, who had struggled to fit her big ape-body up the tunnel, but was there, taking up most of the space while doing her best to help.

The dwarf ignored Bible's angry comment, though he stopped outwardly chuckling for the moment and switched to watching Jack (as he struggled with a tentacle) with a keen interest.

OOC: Bible did 13 to the Roper.
