(IC) Against the Giants PBP Group 2

OOC: @TaranTheWanderer The Stone Giants were chained to the posts (massive logs attached to the roof and buried deep in the floor - even a giant would be hard-pressed to do damage to them) by the Fire Giant, so the chains are something pretty impressive too. But you can find the weakest part and get a crowbar in there (someone would have had one if you didn't.) Feel free to give me a STR (Athletics) check with Advantage as an Action and we'll see if you can break them. the DC will be high, though!

When Kharu had told Donnell about the chains, the young squire hadn't really fathomed the shear size of the chain links. Each was the size of his torso and the thickness of the steel was equal to his forearm. But he noticed that the chains were not padlocked together but wrapped and haphazardly tied to the posts. For the giant to pull himself free from the other side of the post would have been impossible but, from the back where the chain was "tied", if Donnell could but lever the chains to loosen the "knot", it might give the stone giant enough slack to start wiggling himself free.

Donnell took a crowbar and thrust it through two of the links and started levering them in opposite directions. The chains moved slightly. He pulled out the crowbar and, once again rammed it through two different ones to coax them a bit further along. The knot was loosening.

He yelled to the stone Giant, "try working the chains to pull free!"

As the giant moved, the links shifted and one slid up the crowbar, almost taking off Donnell's hand. He pulled his hand away just in time as he watch the crowbar bend and snap. As the two halves of the crowbar clanked to the stone floor, Donnell wondered if he'd done enough.

OOC:
Breaking chains: 2D20.HIGH(1)+8 = [17, 11]+8 = 25

This is pretty close to my max so, if this doesn't work, I'll join the fight next round.

Hey @FitzTheRuke, I can’t find the giants rolls. Gimlak will cast shield as a reaction to prevent some of the damage and I wanted to double check that he wasn’t wasting his spell slot.[/ooc]
OOC: Huh. Yeah. That could be a problem. I've stopped posting rolls in my games for 2 reasons: To save time, and because my wife has found it fun to roll real dice for me. But yeah, Reactions (always a spot of trouble in PBP) can make that difficult, especially as I'm unlikely to remember what was rolled by the time you post your reaction. I'll have to give it some thought. I could go back to the "old way" if we need to. In this case, it was only last night, and I remember that she rolled a 23 for the 19 damage, but only exactly 18 for the 12 damage that you took.

The chains clanked against each other as they loosened, as if they were going over pawls. As Laerthar pulled himself free, now that Donnell had undone the "knot". The heavy chain fell to the floor as the giant freed himself, but he turned and picked it up, wrapping it over his shoulders and down one arm. He turned to look at Donnell and nodded his thanks before turning to observe the chaos of the fight. Before joining the fray, he chanted a few deep, rumbling words and his bare shoulders (he'd been stripped down to his undergarments and badly beaten by the fire giant) turned from a mottled gray "sandstone"-like appearance into a dark gray-streaked-with-white "marble".

OOC: He cast Stoneskin on himself.

OOC: thanks. no need to keep track of the rolls, what you did works fine. just keep in mind that Gimlak has shield and absorb elements, so he may use them if necessary. He’ll definitely cast shield as a reaction, so I’ll assume that he only got 19 damage, minus the thp means he gets -5.

The Elemental's rocky fist appears to grow as it slams into the Hill giant. The sound of stone on flesh would be nauseating in ordinary contexts, but here, it gives satisfaction to those of the attackers who care to notice it. The Giant collapses, and the Earth Elemental turns, with slow weary movements, and stalks inexorably towards the next closest Hill giant, guarding the main door. Again it swings, but the giant remains outside of its reach and the elemental hits nothing but air.

Meanwhile, the Colonel, still concentrating on the elemental, having extricated himself from the debris makes his way to cover behind a support pillar. Glancing around, he sees the wounded Hill Giant servant. With a closed fist he pulls down sacred flame upon it, (maybe) leaving it barely standing.

OOC: Elemental attack 1 (HG2): 1d20+9=20 HIT 1d10+8=17 bludgeoning damage KILL? Assuming so:
Move to AL-AM 68-69.
attack 2 (HG2): 1d20+9=11 MISS.

Colonel: move to AF64.
Attack: Sacred Flame: DC18 dex or 3d8=15 radiant to Hill Giant Servant.

"12 years!" the Barbarian growled as he stepped back from the ogres charge, rage twisting his muscles and reddening his vision. Kahru had not been home in years, hunting Mudsmuck had become his obsession, his zealots calling, to recover the Eagle bone whistle that had been stolen from the chiefs son, and here, a mere swords swingaway, was his moment of triumphant - his satisfaction and Kahru did not intend that it escape him now!

"you left me lying for dead in the snow" Kahru hissed "but the Storm Bear has called me to vengeange!"

With that he swung Waythe with all the might he could must before the ogress could recover, aiming for the drooping wattles of her neck and pouring all his zealous fury and hatred in to cleaving through the carcass of his enemy.

OOC: Assume i'm Raging due to bonus action

Waythe 2d6+1, Damage Str +3, Rage +2, Divine Fury +1d6+2 vs Giant +2d6 (Knockdown DC 15):
2D6+1+3+2+1D6 +2+2D6 = [6, 1]+1+3+2+[4]+2+[1, 2] = 22

Gimlak moves closer to the fallen hill giant, and mentally punishes the two giants that dared to attack him. He also directs the whirling mass of debris towards the giant at the southern door.

OOC: Move to AF64, and crouch for extra cover behind the crate or pillar (not sure what that is).

Action, cast twinned Tasha's mind whip on Hill giant 1 and the young hill giant. DC17 int save. On a failed save, the target takes 3d6 psychic damage, (12 for HG1 and 9 for YGH if they fail their saves) and it can’t take a reaction until the end of its next turn. Moreover, on its next turn, it must choose whether it gets a move, an action, or a bonus action; it gets only one of the three. On a successful save, the target takes half as much damage and suffers none of the spell’s other effects.

note: use 2nd level spell slot and 2 spell points

Bonus action, mentally direct animated objects to attack HG3

Doc watched the target o' his ire dropped by thirsty blade of his compadre, openin' up a shot at the big ugly right behind 'em. Steelin' hisself after his last shot missed the mark, Doc loosed two pieces of hot lead from the peacemaker, takin' grim satisfaction in both hittin' the mark.
