D&D 5E (2014) [IC] Against the Slavelords

At the Devil's Den the dwarf and human exchange more blows and Brak unleashes a lightning javelin into the dwarf's face and yet still the wild monster did not fall!!! The crowd is stunned by the violence as the two exchange a few more might blows when finally Brak can take no more and falls.

Braggi staggers back, a confused look on his face and he swings a few more times where Brak was standing as if he does not realize that the human had fallen back to the group. The crowd starts chanting "Braggi!! Braggi!! Braggi!!!"




A few blocks away the dwarf scowls at Levanna but seems to take Evendur seriously. He looks back into the secret room and bites his lip, considering something...

Taking heart in the dwarfs momentary pause, Evendur starts to guide the mage to the door.

[section]Grateful for Evendur's quick thinking, Levanna rose from the seat and followed Evendur. Fortunately, she did not have to act as if she needed the fresh air.

Thank you. That was about to get ugly... she mentally sent to him. My plan failed... Do you have any ideas?

Elredd/Devil’s Den
Day 1/Night

Tirion eyed the powerful-looking dwarf that entered the pit with Brak. The creature looked dangerous. But then so did Brak. Tirion never did understand this sort of thing, nor did he enjoy watching as the two enraged fighters exchanged blows, wincing as Braggi caught a good blow to Brak’s shoulder.

Brak wasn’t looking too good. Tirion instinctively reached for his holy amulet, though it was hidden beneath his armor. He winced and blinked away spots as Brak threw his lightning javelin at the dwarf.

But Brak eventually succumbed to the onslaught, falling to the bloody dirt and lying still. Tirion grasped the bars, willing the big barbarian to his feet as the dwarf basked in the chanting of the crowd.

Tirion waited. No one seemed of a mind to go to the fallen warrior, to see if he still lived. The cleric scowled at the disregard for life. Tirion rapidly considered what he should do. Brak’s skills would likely be needed in the coming weeks.

Decision made, Tirion sent a quick prayer to Pelor and pulled the holy symbol from beneath his armor. It glowed like a torch with the spell upon it, though the cleric hoped that would not be noticed from his position in the pit and beneath the crowd. Trying to be discreet, Tirion cast a prayer of healing.

[section]The elf did not feel comfortable there. He remained alert all the time focusing in the dwarf, thought ignoring the monk behind him. And he tried not to react when he was called "manservant", although an angry smirk spread across his face. But now things got tense. Levanna was betrayed by her nervousness and the dwarf was plotting something ill.

"I guess we can fight now", he focused his toughs to Evendur and Levanna, and slowly reaching the handle of his rapier... [/section]

At the Devil's Den the crowd continues to chant for Braggi's name. The dwarf roars with triumph and steps forward to slash open his downed foe... when suddenly, feeling a holy flash of life, Brak rolls too his feet and chops into Braggi!!! The dwarf shouts in anger but he has reached his limit; the former gladiator cuts his across his arm and then chops deep into the dwarf's chest!!!! The crowd is stunned into silence, not sure what happen but it is a rare spectacle indeed!!!

Brak is still too enraged to notice but Grimblades seems to be glance over where Tirion is hidden and smiles. He then goes to collect his winnings. The pit master is shocked and looking like he is ready to get the heck out of there when those few who bet big on Brak come to collect...

As Brak's breathing returns to normal he notices that the tattoos on Braggis chest and head seem to partially dissipate and flow into a simple set of bracers that he is wearing. For a second they appear on the surface of the bracers (multiple dragon or serpent like things) and then they are gone and the bracers look again like they are made of simple copper.




A few blocks away the three stand and head for the exit. The dwarf hesitates and then says "Yes... mayhaps that would be for the best... ye all can return when the lady has recover herself..." he then raps his knuckles against the wall three times, with a pause twice more. As Evendur's and Levanna just make it too the door it silently opens (Evendur just makes out the almost silent click of the lock again).

Brother Kost stands at the same time Alegast does and says "Would you like my assistance in acquiring about a room for the night? At least for the lady so that you might return?"

 

[Forged Fury]

Brak Blood-Bear, 5th Level Barbarian

The final blow from Braggi dropped Brak to his back. Staring into the smoky ceiling, the colors of the world faded to white as his eyes closed. As his vision started to tunnel, the whiteness gave way to darkness at the edges which quickly consumed the light. Darkness surrounded Brak he felt nothing, could sense nothing. Was this all that awaited after death? How pointless.

Brak's train of thought was interrupted by a loud pop as light, sound, smell, and pain, unbelievable pain, popped back into his existence. Had he only fallen unconscious? The gladiator could hear the crowd around him chanting. "BRAGGI! BRAGGI! BRAGGI!" With slow movements, Brak pulled his flask from his side. Bringing it to his mouth, he pulled out the stopper with his teeth and took a long drink of the basic grain alcohol. The bitter acrid taste shocked him the rest of the way awake.

He could hear some in the crowd trying to warn Braggi that his opponent was not quite dead yet, but their cries were drowned out by those too intoxicated with bloodlust to notice anything other than the dwarf. Grabbing his greataxe, he clambered to one knee. At that point, the dwarf finally turned around to deliver the death blow, only to find the human gladiator miraculously recovered. Growling in rage, bubbles of blood sputtering from his mouth, Brak leveled a vicious blow, catching the dwarf in the side and doubling him over. Rising the rest of the way to his feet, he delivered an overhead cut, catching the dwarf in his back and driving him to the ground. Placing one booted foot on the dying dwarf, Brak shouted, "You call this a champion?"

Not willing to risk any more miracles, the gladiator turned around and delivered a swift chop, aiming for the dwarf's neck and severing his head cleanly. Brak warily observed the tattoos fading from the dwarf's form and flashing into the bracers. He squinted duly, figuring it to be magic of some sort. He plucked them off, in the event they could bring the dwarf back from the dead. "Well fought, little man." Glancing around, Brak searched for Tirion, hoping the cleric could make himself useful and heal some of his wounds.

The three leave Brother Kost and the dwarf and are back outside into the night. The doorman nods at them as they leave but otherwise remains silent.
