D&D 5E [IC] Against the Slavelords

After Quellathe finished binding her wounds and tending to Naeris, she turned to Kelvyn "Is that Drow sleeping poison I see? It could come in handy if we run into more problems. It certainly seems effective." Quellathe glanced briefly at Tirion, performing his ritual and blushed with shame. Not the most politic of comments, she thought to herself. "May I have a vial or two for my arrows? " Looking to the rest of the group she said, "Perhaps we might try the way the last Drow left? I would guess they were trying to escape back the way they came, and Naeris apparently encountered noone else in her short time past the door. Would you like Naeris and I to scout when we are ready to go, or should I stay closer to the back in hopes of making better use of my bow?"

OOC: Presuming that Kelvyn gives Quellathe one of the vials, she will coat 6 of her arrows with the sleeping poison. She will also be sure to put her hood up before leaving the room.

As the wave of healing coursed over herself and Naeris, she looked at Tirion and voiced her thanks.

“Think nothing of it, my ladies,” Tirion assured Levanna and Quellathe. He accepted his share of the gold from Kelvyn and shook out one of the drow cloaks, studying it, before putting it on.

“I am feeling perfectly healthy now,” Tirion admitted. “A tad low on spells, but we could probably push on a bit further, if we are careful. I think the drow might be the least of our concerns. They seem to have been here as customers, and though their shopping list is ominous, the more immediate threat is likely the slavers themselves. Perhaps we should follow where the orc and dwarf came from?”

Kelvyn finished dolling out the spoils and nodded at Tirion. "I like your logic. We should backtrail the slavers rather than the buyers."

After their short rest and collecting the loot from the room the group heads back out the way they came down the sewer and to the junction with the heavily looking wooden bridge. Crossing it they head down the sewer tunnel which opens into a somewhat larger circular chamber. The construction of the sewer changes here, the main channel dividing into three tunnels. The walls are still made of brick and the ceilings of stone, and are just over ten feet wide and tall, but there are no longer any dry ledges to walk upon. The sewage does not appear to be very deep though (maybe a foot or two).

Down each tunnel the heroes can make out what appears to be a light source but all three
tunnels 'bend' sharply within 30 or 40 feet.

Tirion eyed the new tunnel with distaste. The sewage wasn’t deep, but they would have to walk through it. He saw the lights in the three tunnels, but nothing beyond thirty to forty feet where they too turns out of sight.

“Kelvyn, check and see what is around those corners,” Tirion said quietly. He put a hand lightly on Kelvyn’s shoulder and said a prayer of guidance.

Kelvyn adjusts his cloak slightly to keep the hem out of the muck and steps to the fore on quiet feet. He eases up to the corner trying out the cloak's power and takes a look.

Moving with near absolute silence, Kelvyn moves through the slowly flowing sewage and down the left most tunnel (its not completely fresh sewage so while it still smells and is disgusting it is not as bad as the bug men's area). Peering around the corner he sees the tunnel continues for another 30 feet or so and opens into another larger chamber. There appear to be stairs leading up from the sewage and pass where the rogue can see from the roof of the tunnel. The light appears to be coming from where ever the stairs lead. Kelvyn can hear soft voices echoing down from above also.

Moving closer to these stairs Kelvyn is able to make out shapes and shadows at the top of the stairs. From this angle he can't make them out to well but it appears to be a guard post of some kind as wooden shields have been set into the floor at the top of the stairs and at least a half a dozen of orcs with crossbows and spears are watching the sewer exit. They don't see the well concealed rogue but there is no where to hide if he moved much farther down the tunnel. He is fairly sure there are more orcs that he can't see and at least one creature that towers over them, probably an ogre.

[sblock=Map]The stairs are the darker lines and the red lines are where the tower shields have been set up. The orcs appear to be attentive but not especially wary (they are on guard, but don't appear to be expecting trouble).
The stairs appear to be somewhat slick and are considered Difficulty terrain.

[section]"So be it. Onward we go," Levanna said hesitantly. Though she knew there was no good option before them.

When the group entered the circular chamber, Levanna felt a wave of nausea pass through her at the thought of wading into that filth. "How can any creature choose to conduct business of any sort in places like this?" she grumbled. But her features set in grim resolve to press onward, should Kelvyn's scouting determine that it was necessary.

"The sort of creature that trades in people and misery." Uhtred replied, far more harshly than he meant to. Scowling under his helmet he waited impatiently for Kelvyn to return, clenching his fists around his axe until his knuckles went white.

Quellathe rested her hand on Naeris' head, a comfort to them both. Neither liked being in confined spaces or the stench. "If Kelvyn finds more foes,
we should tread carefully, for I know we are not all at full power. I still have a pouch of dust that can make at least some of us invisible for a short time, and a few scrolls of spells.
" Turning to Levanna Quellathe continues "You,
lady know magic better than I; do you think any of these would prove useful."

OOC: So I have a funeral today and we are heading into Holy Week (the week leading up to Easter), a crazy time for a pastor of three (!) churches. I'll post when/if I can, but don't let me hold the rest of you up. I posted the above to make clear that the party has my permission to use Q's remaining "consumable" magic items, even if I'm not able to post in the moment to agree.
