(IC - D&D 3.5) Rathan's Problem Down Under

After bidding farewell to the farmer, Anton moves back to his spot and settles himself for his morning devotion, a time for quiet reflection and contemplation. It is here where Anton feels closest to his god, the renewing of energies and spirit. He prays for the strength and light to lead him and his companions into the dark and dangerous.

Once he feels content, Anton sets about gathering his belongings and strapping his armor on, ready to set forth onto a journey of unknown. Lastly he takes his royal blue cloak and drapes it over his shoulders, fastening it about his neck.

"Menhir. Are you alright? Is anything wrong?"

The elemental doesn't answer right away, struggling as it is to describe a geological phenomenon that, in terran, would be a simple concept to convey. Menhir lifts a ponderous arm, splays the fingers of its outstretched hand towards the horizon and begins to speak uncertainly in its odd gravely tone: "The land... is made to... tremble... lightly... from the surface down... over there. It's not natural or... anticipated."

The elemental silently curses, not for the first time, the frustratingly incomplete language it's being forced to make use of to communicate in this instance.

No one but Berrek sees the apparition try to touch him as he successfully jumps down from the loft with his gear intact.... he would look back after taking his eyes off the ghost to see where he is about to land but once looking back there is nothing there at all....

“Sure Berrek, I was going to study my artifact today anyway, if later, though I guess doing it now won’t hurt,” Eltyr replies, flipping back a page or two to prepare the extra detect magic Berrek has requested.

Once he’s done preparing spells and has finished his breakfast, Eltyr casts detect magic and studies his artifact intently.

OOC: Eltyr dumps his ray of frost and prepares an extra detect magic today, he will study his artifact for at least 3 rounds.

Eltyr does as he says and casts detect magic and studies his item in question... upon the third round of study though the faint magics inside seem blast your senses as almost a defense and daze you for 1d3=2 rounds.... it may not seem like much but in a situation of combat or strenuous task... it could be a lifetime.... Eltyr comes out of his stupor no worse for ware and doesn't seem to know any more than Berrek would know as to it's properties other than these magics working within these items are older than anything *you* have ever heard recorded in magics history....

"Steady Menhir. It will be OK. I know trying to communicate with us is difficult for you. Perhaps if I ask some questions it would help.

Is this caused by someone / something that is occurring right now?

Is this something that was caused by the starfall?

Has it just started or has it been going on for some time?

Is it steady or is it getting worse?"

Anton notices the oddness inside the barn, first Berrek performing acrobats from the loft and second Eltyr becoming overwhelmed by his magics. He looks at the two of them with a confused expression on his face, "Uhh, is everything okay?"

"Is this caused by someone / something that is occurring right now?"

In answer, the elemental simply nods its featureless blocky head.

Is this something that was caused by the starfall?

Menhir nods.

Has it just started

Menhir shakes his head to indicate the negative.

or has it been going on for some time?

The elemental nods.

Is it steady or is it getting worse?"

Menhir shakes his head no.

"So we have an effect that was originally caused by the starfall but is currently been manipulated by someone or something.

Well there is nothing that we can do about it at the moment. So I suggest that we continue with our current mission. However, we should bear this in mind for any future actions."
