D&D 5E (IC) Fitz's Folly

OOC:
Location: Camp Righteous Encounter: The Ring of Winter

End Round Two; Begin Round Three
<snip>
Miss Imogen used her second wind (IC 1010), and so should be at 25/25.

As I said in OOC post 827, there has been no mention of secrets, since Harb has not backed down. I am sorry this was not clear: I have now crossed out the bit that has not happened. Three characters (Harb, Chrysagon, Cimber) have responded to something that wasn't meant to be said in this heightened situation.

I am posting a round 3 action now, but please also see the OOC post (I expect 830).

Rodrigo's words hurt Miss Imogen. Again, she urges the bear to stop its attacks, but does not understand the power of the ring that she has just mastered and does not want to use its powers in any way.

"Rodrigo, our trust was founded the day I met you and began to fight alongside you. If that is not enough, then you do not want me as your friend."

"Harb, you may have reason for your threats. But it is the Harpers that want Cimber, and this ring. Your motives are not innocent, and I ask you again to stand down."

[ref for her knowledge of this: IC 396, 404]

"Chrysagon, I meant you no harm, now or ever."

"Mr. Cimber, I have not mentioned honesty, and yes I took advantage of you. I now understand your burden, and yet I find I have a strength that you do not."

Without raising her bow, Miss Imogen draws the ring from her finger, leaving herself vulnerable to her comrades' attacks.

[reaction: readied action, as before.]

Edited.

Fitz, just to be sure (before I do my turn in round 3), I don't know if you noticed my action in round 2.

Harb watched the ring come off, but he did not relax so easily. It wouldn't take much for her to put it back on and resume her attacks. However, he did take a step back, still within striking distance, but as a sign that he would treat her in kind. As a form of de-escalation.

"They do want it, but that does not mean to say that I intend to give it to them. This..." He waves his hand back to the scene behind him, battle with polar bear and all. "...gives me pause in regards to that particular order."

OOC: If she lays down ring and bow, he'll step farther back. Otherwise, he's still ready to charge in.

"If you have broken free of the ring's influence, then I commend you for your strength of character." admitted Artus Cimber, "Though I do not carry the ring for my own sake, nor because of it's influence, but for the sake of everything else. Now, please return the ring to me and I will destroy the creature that it has created before it does any more harm."

He took a few tentative steps forward, happy to have Chrysagon to go with him.

Miss Imogen looks at Harb with sadness in her eyes. She turns to Rodrigo and Chrysagon.

"I am sorry, my friends. I have removed the ring, as asked. I have begged for Harb to stand down, repeatedly. He has not done so. There is no trust any more."

To Cimber: "I regret my part in this."

With that, she flees into the forest.

OOC: Readied action, as in post 1010. I believe I was mistaken and I do not get the move, but I do get the Dash (30' of additional distance). With the Charm of Jumping (IC 861), she can jump 3x normal jump distance:
* with 10' movement: 30'
* standing: 15'
* High Jump: (9' + reach if needed of 8' (total 17'), assuming she's 5'4.)

She is going for high branches (or an extended arm of a statue if it gives access to the trees), or over obstacles, in order to get out of danger safely.

Seeing Miss Imogen turn to flee, Harb starts to move after her. He might have caught up to her, with luck. But decided better of it and stopped to let her go.

"Imogen! If you've cast the ring aside, you've shown that you broke its hold on you! There is no need to leave!" shouted Rodrigo. "We can fix this!"

He didn't dare turn his back on the ice-bear, however.

Chrysagon looked trough the jungle and sighed. First, he thought about his duty. Without Miss Imogen, they'll never destroy the Soulmonger and complete the mission. Then his responsibilities as the Ring came to his mind. What if she loose it? What curse they let free into the world? Finally, his heart spoke. He had to take care of the girl. She's alone in this forest. Little thief... he smiled.

He looked back to the combat and sighed again, checking his equipment and water. He knew she was too smart, they'll never find her. She had to come of his own free will. But she was afraid and ashamed. Cimber will remind her of her guilt and Harb the trust she had lost. The Paladin saw only one solution.

"I'll bring her back." he said calmly without waiting for an answer. Maybe she'll come to him. A paternal, stable and neutral figure, maybe a friend.

"Where I walk, I walk in your Light. With your Compassion I heal. With your Wisdom I bring back the Lost Sheep."
He healed up and stepped into the jungle, more looking for dangers and traps than for Miss Imogen. She was not far and she will find him soon enough. Let's hope it will not be too late, for both of them.

Miss Imogen leapt into the air, grabbed hold of the crocodile-statue's tail, and hauled herself up onto the grassy ledge high over the camp. She ran off toward the jungle, clearly upset. Harb made as if to follow, but then thought better of it: he had struck her while she had been under the influence of the ring. She would only run from him.

Chrysagon left Artus Cimber's side and went to bring her back. Weed followed him, while Qawasha nodded sagely and said, "She must be dealt with caution, but also kindness."

With Rodrigo's help, Dragonbait finally smashed the Ice-Bear to pieces. Artus Cimber called to Chrysagon and then sat down to wait, "Please find her. If she has broken free of the ring's influence she will be in a heightened emotional state. The ring will not be able to influence her again today."
