D&D 5E (IC) Fitz's Folly

Kasqa nodded to Dellrak, "They taste much like a game-bird."

Speaking of birds, the Sticks were surrounded in eager scavenger birds by the time that they finished slaughtering one of the dead beasts. They continued to follow the group as they left the high grass, searching for a good spot to camp. By this time, more than half the group had come down with the Shivering Sickness - a malady that blurred their vision, ruined their balance, and left them feverish and shaky.

Wulf, Harb, Kasqa and Weed were unaffected, and they did their best to lead the group to a rocky ledge overlooking the beginning of the swamp where they took cover between a stand of trees. While everyone was being checked over, Miss Imogen took the time to take a look at Weed's present - a mudball that she had wrapped in a piece of cloth. When the mud was scraped from its hard centre, Miss Imogen discovered a lump of gold about the size of her fist.

Harb took the opportunity to check everyone over, noting the infected insect bites and doing his best to alleviate their symptoms.

"We need to find a way to drive off the mosquitoes. I believe that burning certain types of incense may help with that. Perhaps there is something in the area we can use to such an effect?

OOC: Medicine: 1D20+4 = [12]+4 = 16

I'm guessing that finding a repellent would be a survival check.

Miss Imogen shivers when she sees the gold, and despite herself, she is sure her pupils dilate. Perhaps that is the sickness that she and the others are suffering from.

"My word, Kupalue. What have you found?" She thanks him, but knows it will be added to the common horde.

"Maybe I can help."

Chrysagon invoke Kelemvor's powers and cure as much diseases as he can.

"I think it's working, for now. But as you said, Harb. It will not last long. Those mosquitoes are a plague."

OOC: Lay on Hands: 15. Cure 1 disease with 5 points.

Dellrak and Miss Imogen were more able and willing to hide their symptoms (due to the dwarf's stoicism and the archer's poise) and were deemed to have a mild case, so Chrysagon healed Rodrigo, Tarri, and Qawasha of their Shivering Sickness.

Kasqa and Wulf collected some locally-growing ingredients following Qawasha's efficient instructions, and they created a mud-based bug repellent for everyone to slather on their skin.

OOC: Dellrak and Miss Imogen are still sick. They have disadvantage on skill checks and only regain half as many HP from spending hit dice.

Kasqa, Wulf, and Qawasha's joint nature check to make bug repellent: Check: 2D20.HIGH(1)+4 = [6, 10]+4 = 14
Not great but good enough for now.

Harb nodded in satisfaction at the mixture and applied it to himself at the first opportunity. He had been fortunate to avoid the worst of the swarms but had no illusions of immunity.

Rodrigo inhaled sharply as the cool yet sharp power of Chrysagon. "Praise to Kelemvor brother Chrysagon, the foul ague has been driven away!" His eyes were clear and his hands were steady. "I hope I won't have to... but I can fight again"

"I will take some of that repelent -let's not take the gods' gifts for granted" - added Rodrigo. Once this was done, he prepared his crossbow and took watch - the others needed the rest.

Once Wulf was bandaged and while the others were being treated for their illness by Chrysagon, the scoutmaster and Harb travelled up to the top of a nearby ridge to have a look at the path before them. The clear day made it possible to see a dozen miles across the glistening surface of the Aldani wetlands. About two miles to the south, Harb spotted movement. It seemed that a group of creatures of roughly human-size were removing the branches from some stunted swamp-trees. No more detail could be made out, and Wulf Rygar shrugged and said, "I've no idea who they could be. We can easily avoid them by heading west, unless you think we should see if they are friendly."
