OOC: Just to be clear -- in post 1257 Miss Imogen took 4d6+2 for the attack? And the frightened state is now expired with the start of the new round?

Yup. Crit on 2D6+2. Frightened would still be there if you went before them using normal Init (so if your turn was before Init 15, which we rolled in the OOC), but I'm not going to press the issue if you want to ignore it. You could roll and see if you like. It's always weird when rolling well turns out to be a bad thing.

OOC: okay -- not frightened, and ready to fire in round 2. I'll set up what I should have done before, which is an "automatic" casting of the Shield spell on any hit, using Miss Imogen's reaction.

As the pterafolk's claws dug into her side, Miss Imogen felt filaments of red frost pull away from her body, as blood froze as it left her body. She yelped, and the sound of her voice brought her focus.

Beside her, not ten feet away, the cartographer fell before another one of the creatures. The one in front of her would have to wait. She drew her bow and let fly at the creature tormenting Tarri and Quaska.

OOC: Bonus: Fighting Spirit: 5 temp hp and advantage.
Action: attack Pterafolk 3 with Sharpshooter. Better of [roll]1d20+2
and [roll0]. If a hit, damage = [roll1].
No move.
ACTION SURGE!
Bonus: Second wind. Regain [roll2] hp.
Attack in next post so as not to overload the system.[/ooc]

OOC: Ack! Editing error.

First attack: better of 4 and [roll0] for 15 points damage.

Second attack, agains the same creature, or if it's gone, then vs. Pterafolk 5:
better of [roll1] and [roll2], and if a hit damage = [roll3] piercing.

Round 2

“Bloody Bones!” Dellrak cursed as he pulled out his new heavy crossbow. He started walking along the cliff top as he took aim at the pterafolk attacking those lower down. He murmured the words that would magically mark his quarry and his bolt glowed, turning translucent. Then he fired. But the bolt went skittering over the side of the cliff, not hitting the creature.

Planar Warrior: As a bonus action, choose one creature you can see within 30 feet of you. The next time you hit that creature on this turn with a weapon attack, all damage dealt by the attack becomes force damage, and the creature takes an extra 1d8 force damage from the attack. When you reach 11th level in this class, the extra damage increases to 2d8.
Primeval Awareness (action and spell slot): For one minute per level of spell slot, detect within 1 mile (6 in favored terrain) aberrations, celestials, dragons, elementals, fey, fiends, and undead. This feature doesn’t reveal the creatures’ location or number.

Rodrigo recovered from his surprise - he couldn't afford to do nothing! He drew his blades and yelled

"Link up! Focus fire!"

But he couldn't maneuver... or could he? He knew Miss Imogen could do great damage if she was allowed to. This would be a good one to take out first... He feighed at the foe nearest him and then stepped back, blades ready for a counter attack

MOVE: move sideways from S to T. Reaction when attacked of opportunitied (can this be a verb?) : riposte or parry (we'll see).

ACTION SURGE: Attack petrafolk near Miss Imogen twice

Attack 1:
first action surge vs petrafolk: 1D20+6 = [12]+6 = 18

Maneuver: Trip. DC 14 strength save or fall (not sure what the consequence would be besides giving me advantage on 2nd attack, given the terrain? tripped flying creatures plummet so...)
trip attack vs petrafolk: 1D8+6+1D8 = [8]+6+[2] = 16

Attack 2: 2nd action surge attack vs petrafolk, 2nd roll is advantage if any, since it may be tripped: 1D20+6 = [16]+6 = 22
1D20+6 = [17]+6 = 23

(ooc: I think the advantage issue is moot for this specific attack ha! - but it may matter for other allies, fall damage etc?)

2nd action surge attack dmg vs petrafolk: 1D8+6 = [7]+6 = 13

Harb, Chrysagon, Wulf, & Weed vs Pterafolk1
Imogen & Kasqa vs Pterafolk3 & 6
Rodrigo & Qawasha vs Pterafolk2, 4 & 5

Rescuing Miss Imogen and freeing her to fire her excellent shots seemed prudent, but the clearest target was the pterafolk who was attacking Rodrigo. So the group running along the upper ridge fired to free Rodrigo so he could, in turn, aid Imogen. A hail of arrows, bolts, and stones rained down from above.

Some found their mark while others headed over the cliff, but Rodrigo stepped to the side as his attacker fell to the ground, pierced through. He smashed the Pterafolk on Imogen into the ground and ran it through as it attempted to stand. Miss Imogen coolly raised her bow and fired two arrows at the pterafolk that was dragging off poor unconscious Tarri. It knocked the first arrow aside with a wing, but the second struck it in the chest and it staggered back.

Taking his spear in both hands, Kasqa plunged it into the staggered pterafolk. It let out a loud shriek and fell, rolling off of the cliff. Then, the pterafolk that had been attacking him shoved him aside with its wings and scooped up Tarri in its claws and leapt into the air, swooping away low along the cliff to avoid arrows from above.

Similarly, one of the pterafolk around Qawasha scratched and pecked him into unconsciousness and scooped him up while the other turned its attentions on Rodrigo, scratching at him.

In very little time, half of the winged creatures had been killed, but two of the Stick's allies were being carried away by the others.

GM: This is some quick slaughter. Oof. I'm reminded why I try not to resolve a whole round in one go.
