Suldrel attempts to take a step back to find room to take a swing but his polearm but finds the swampy ground ill affords him purchase. In his mind he curses, thinking that it is perhaps a sign he is losing his snow sense, but outwardly his lips pull back and he growls as he releases the haft of his weapon with his right hand and pulls back his arm, forming a fist as he tries to punch the creature right in its ugly face.

OOC: Unarmed Strike (w/Brawler): 1d20+7=15, 1d3+5=8 . Forgot flank bonus once again. Should be 17 to hit. Nearly forgot will save too. At least dice loved me on this one. Will: 1d20+2=22

Edit: Also, as a note, I think power attack only adds +1 damage to Jakira's claw attacks, not +2? I assume they count as secondary natural weapons, whereas the bite is primary.

End of Combat

Sachiko wobbled for a moment, then looked up at the creature with angry eyes. Her hand flickered, and her sword appeared in it. In an instant she darted in to get behind the monster, opposite it from Suldrel.
"You leave my brother alone!" she shouted. "This is between you and me!"
Her blade went snicker snack!
But the creature is able to deftly dodge the blow.

Fastus's thought were much simpler: Burning hells!
He wrenched out his newly-minted mace from his belt and waded in, swinging with burning passion if not accuracy: "You alright, Sachi?"
And for some reason, just having him besides her meant she WAS.
Sachiko feels better after her bite.

Wireth whistles, and Nairo dives at the creature attacking Sachiko. Wings flurry in the face of the beast, and it finds itself unsettled by the angry turkey vulture.

Elsbeth was surprised when the creature appeared out of the swamp and attacked. Everything was slightly chaotic as everyone was trying to attack the creature after it attacked Sachiko. She reached to her belt and retrieved her recently acquired wand. Speaking the magic word, the wand came to life and unleashed a missile of magical energy that flew unerringly towards the creature, striking true.

Wireth moves in, himself, and swings hard for the monster, hoping to take it down before it can cause any more damage.
The half-orc misses.

With a clear path open and the large bird providing a distraction, the feline eidolon sprang forward with his fangs bared. One he got closer he leaped with the claws on his forepaws extended. Jakira was a terror and the sharp teeth and claws tore the creature to bloody shreds.
The attacks by the eidolon finish the creature off.

"You can say THAT again!" enthoused Fastus with a wide grin.
The blacksmith immediately splashed around to get a better shot, somewhere between Suldrel and Jakira, and then realized the creature was dead.

Really...?

"WOOHOO!" Fastus patted the panther on the back, heartily - Jakira could take it and then some - and shook his harness around in happy congratulations: "Way to go, CAT! Did you see that, Suldrel? It came out, and then you hit it, and then Jakira went 'rawr' and it went RIGHT BACK DOWN again!" He grinned at the winter elf, and his good mood was somehow infectious.

He saw that, right?

OOC: Which is his way of: Casting CLW on Suldrel: 1D8+2 = [7]+2 = 9. :)

"Ok, good work, kitty."

Jariah looked a little chagrined at the mess Jakira made of the creature. After his huffiness about not getting enough credit for killing goblins and the lickity-tongue, he was probably going to be insufferable after some praise from the blacksmith. But that was a small price to pay for having the dangerous thing killed quickly.

She asked the two that had been struck by it, “Are you two okay? The ugly creature looked deadly.”

“Does anyone know what thing was?”

Jakira answered as he sat preening on his haunches, casually licking the blood from his fur and claws. “I know what it was, HA! Tis dead that’s what. Who’s da killerrr now, eh? Don’t nobody wanna piece o-”

A mental chiding from his mistress cut him off from continuing further.

Wireth adds his own look of thanks to the eidolon, though he says nothing more. He kneels before the bloodied body, trying to figure out exactly what it might be, but gets nothing more than Nairo strutting beside him. The turkey buzzard cocks his head to one side as if asking a question. Wireth grimaces.

"I think this might not be the right carrion for you, old friend," he says gently to the bird, nudging it away. Nairo gives a frustrated caw, then flies to the closest branch.

"I know how to live in the woods, but I can't say I know the ins and outs of all the weird creatures that move about in it," he offers to Fastus. "I suppose we could always take it back to the sheriff. We've not gotten very far out of town yet."

You can see where the creature came from. It might be possible to track back where it came from.

Elsbeth

Elsbeth looked at the dead creature with mild disinterest. She really didn't care what it was. If there were others like it, then that would be worth attention.

"Do you think it is alone or might there be more?"

"I suppose we could always take it back to the sheriff. We've not gotten very far out of town yet."
The steaming young man's eyes lit up with the idea (although not literally this time): "You want to mount it? It'd make a BURNINGLY COOL display in the Rusty. With a big PLAQUE or something, right cat?"

OOC: I think we're close to the goblin village at this point, but Fastus is game. :)

Fastus looked back at Elli when she spoke, not really understanding her lack of excitement: they'd just killed the burning SOGGY RIVER MONSTER, right?

But seeing her did calm him down a bit... and since they were asking questions: "And is it the SAME thing that left the tracks in the mud yesterday?" he asked of Suldrel and Wireth.

The one that had chewed that baby alligator, right?

He squatted down and experimentally poked at the dead Soggy: weirdest thing he'd EVER seen -- and that's counting a full grown tongue-thing!

OOC: Was the creature wearing anything, TS? Clothes, jewelry, tattoos? Remarkable past injuries or something maybe?

Suldrel unclenches his fist and lets out a whoosh of breath as the Soggy River Monster gets the wrong end of the cat-fight. The elf leans on his polearm a bit as he catches his breath.

"Thank you, Fastus," he said as the blacksmith healed the worst of the blow he had taken from the creature.

"I do not think we should worry too much about taking it back to town. Where it came from though, that is another matter."

OOC: Survival: 1d20+7=16
