"Sorry. About the bone pile thing," Fastus told Elli as they started walking. "Was so sure there'd be SOMETHING in there... Something bothering you?"

Elsbeth just shook her head no.
"No, I'm fine." she answered a bit too quickly.

How could she possibly explain her feelings when she saw the pile of bones. It didn't seem to bother the others but it reminded her too much of the day her parents died. She had been just a little girl then but the image of all the dad bodies lying about would haunt her forever. Fastus and Sachiko were her two best friends but this was something she wasn't sure she could ever explain to them.

Elsbeth

Elsbeth maintained her pace back towards Sabdpoint. Intellectually, she understood that she needed to accept what had happened all those years ago. Her priest had once told her she needed to be able to talk about it. She just wasn't ready. Every time she had wanted to discuss it with her adoptive family, they had reacted poorly so she learned to just keep it bottled up inside.

"No, really, I'm okay. It's personal, that's all." she replied with a weak smile.

Jakira looked up at Fastus as he whispered about a plaque the size of a barn door. He asked his mistress over their telepathic link and she explained.

He had a cat-like grin (how could it be otherwise) as if he had caught a mouse.

“It shud be big as two barrrn doorrrs. Mebbe it can be put in Ameiko’s taverrrm.”

Jariah only shook her head, not wanting to encourage her eidolon further, nor squash his spirit either.

Once the body of the beast has been recovered the group heads back to town. When you return there is much buzz about why you have returned so soon. When you present the beast and the remains to the sheriff he is quite impressed. "That beast has been a problem for a while now. Thank you for killing it." It is quickly decided that the remains and the articles of clothing should be placed out so that families of those that have been lost can try to identify them. I leave it to the group to decide what they do now. I presume that all of the skulls and items found will be placed out. I wasn't sure about the leather arm guards. The beast will eventually be disposed of. But first some in town want to study it. The sheriff continues. "Although there was no bounty on this creature I will try to see if we can find something to reward you for your help."

Elsbeth

Elsbeth was not interested in a reward for the creature. To her, it was reward enough to know that it would no longer prey on travelers. Bringing back the remains had been personally difficult for her but ultimately it made her happy to know that at last the family member of those slain will have closure.

"I appreciate the offer of a possible reward but it is not needed. The knowledge that travelers will be safer now is reward enough for me."

“It shud be big as two barrrn doorrrs. Mebbe it can be put in Ameiko’s taverrrm.”
"EXACTLY what I was - thinking." He hurriedly lowered his volume on the last word, surreptitiously glancing at Elli: they were supposed to be depressed together, right?

"Stuffed AND mounted," proudly corrected Fastus with an equally proud grin when the Sherrif brought up the Soggy's fate. "I'm thinking Slow Al - the trapper, you know? He might do a good job for us -- and not too steep, probably? He did the owl with the spread wings over at Hirold's," he explained to those who didn't know, referring to the store where they'd traded in Wireth's chainmail yesterday.

He wouldn't have MINDED a reward, actually, but eh. "Elli's right for the rest."

Jakira scoffed, “I kilt da monsterrr, I want da rrreward. It’s mine anyway.”

Jariah looked at Fastus and Elsbeth and shrugged, “He did defeat the thing in the end.” The female summoner did not relish trying to talk her eidolon out of the reward.

She took out the magical bracers from her pack and laid them with the rest of the recovered belongings.

Word is sent out about the group's exploits and the families that have lost people to the swamp come forward to identify their loved ones. A total of five of the skulls are identified by families as well as about half of the scraps of clothing. The sheriff comes to you after the families have had time to look through the remains. He has the left over scraps of clothing. Of the scraps of clothing remaining of most note are the bracers. He holds the bracers out to the party. "These apparently did not belong to any of the families. You are welcome to them if they will help you. The ones that went adventuring into the swamp several days ago were not among the remains. So they are still unaccounted for."

It is about lunch time. What would you like to do?
