D&D 5E (IC) Scourge of Daggerford

Escella stopped and waved toward the others. Dandin had sent her another message that she'd disappeared on them. Perhaps I've done this too many times, she thought. They're going to help. It's okay to work with them. This won't be like last time.

Tommi has a fresh pile of pebbles in his pocket, most of which are granite from a creekbed he had found near their lodginghs. From his belt hung the hobgoblin's blade, taken as a trophy and still carried with him. He never could get it clean.

He walked, travelling with the others, and veered off as soon as they came to the grounds of the estate. Unfortunately, he rolled his ankle and swore as he fell into a thornbush. They could probably hear him all the way back at Daggerford.

Loose Ends

Titus had remained behind in Newfield, helping the villagers to organize their defence of the Elfwood Tavern. He promised the Daggerfordians that he would catch up eventually, but he suspected that last night's raid was only a test and that the orcs would come again.

Enseth had not recovered from whatever power-fluctuations had shut his systems down. He remained a large metallic statue on the footman's stand on the back of the war-wagon. Before they had left, Tommi had visited him in the hope that he could find some semblance of life in the deactivated construct. There was no response to his voice, and Tommi patted his strange friend on the shoulder-plate before turning to leave. As he did so, there was a grinding noise, and ORB5 emerged from Enseth's chest-compartment.

There was still no sign of life in Enseth himself, but the Shield Guardian's little spherical minion buzzed and whirred and it followed Tommi wherever he went. By the time they reached the Swan's Nest, Tommi and Dandin were convinced that the little construct was not quite the same as it had been before - they felt that it held a remnant of the personality of their friend Enseth. Perhaps it was all he could do to continue to help them while his body lay dormant.

At any rate, Escella led the remaining Daggerfordians as they scouted the south-end of the Floshin Estate. The orcs had two pickets watching the southern approaches - one on the road to Daggerford just south of the smaller creek's crossing east of the Swan's Nest, and the other where the larger creek left the forest to the south-west of the Swan's Nest. They avoided these pickets, noting their locations as they crept along the eastern edge of the woods.

The Swan's Nest

Escella led the way to the Swan's Nest - where a pretty waterfall poured into the centre of a natural depression, creating a secluded pond. Here, a sequence of rocky landings and wooden ramps allowed for a gradual descent to the floor of the depression, where stood three statues and an elegant stone building whose door depicted a stylized setting sun. One of the statues depicted two swans atop a partially submerged rock in the middle of the pool. A statue of an elf hunter stood on the southwestern shore, and a nymph statue stood to the northeastern of the pool.

The depression was twenty feet deep, with only one little path leading to the wooden ramps down. The Daggerfordains circled to the north-west, where they could get a look into the depression. There were orcs! One was very nearby on a wooden bridge by the waterfall. Another stood by the door of the shrine. Three more hauled rock and dirt out of the eastern wall of the depression - as if they were trying to get at something buried under it.

A sixth orc stood in the middle of the depression, cursing at the others. Two vicious-looking dogs could be seen as well - one was finishing mauling the corpse of a swan, with feathers everywhere. The other was barking at the labouring orcs, to add emphasis to its master's curses. (There was a third, as well, out of sight, digging in the short tunnel that the orcs had dug as they tried to break into the crypts under the eastern ridge.)

The Daggerfordians observed all this, before the sound of Tommi catching himself in a thorn-bush alerted the orc on the bridge that someone was above. He shouted a warning to the others.

Vairar has been avoiding orcs for a few days. He managed to seal the tunnel from the Shrine to the Crypts in a way that made the orcs give up on it, but they discovered a little hole in the wall that had been made to let air into/out of the Crypt. They have been digging it out and working on breaking through the Crypt's stonework, both to get at you (they're aware you're in there) and to presumably, rob the Crypts. They are not quite through yet, so you have a round of free time.

OOC: I will be back ASAP to post the round-starter.

Dandin winced as if pain. That didn't sound like a fun landing. He was used to Tommi being more graceful than that, but even the halfling had his moments. With a sigh he dashed forward and spotted the orc on the bridge. It was too late for more subtlety, but maybe a show of power could do some good.

Raising his hand, the halfling summoned a ball of flame from the air and hurled it into the bewildered face of the sentry. "We've got the height advantage, lets use it!"

Produce Flame: 1D20+4 = [15]+4 = 19
1D8 = [8] = 8

Moving up to cast and then dropping prone if possible.

@FitzTheRuke, Vairar doesn't know about the party and he is in the tight space so he holds shield and warhammer rather than the pike.

Round 0

Angis was having a slow morning, having drunk himself into a stupor at the Elfwood the night before, and for a dwarf, that was a lot of ale. He managed to make it to the Swan’s Nest with the others until the orcs discovered them.

“Bloody ‘ells,” he muttered, readying his heavy crossbow as he lumbered out of the bushes and headed toward the entrance to the path through the depression. He lifted the crossbow and let the bolt fly at the orc on the bridge, striking it in the belly.
