D&D 5E (IC) Scourge of Daggerford

FitzTheRuke

Legend
"Odd-lookin' in dat he's an orc (or we're preddy shur he is), but he's got a helm dat covers most of his face, an' his one eye burns like fire. I guess he's blessed by ol' Gruumsh, or summin', but he's an axe-man, not a shaman." Dornuk answered Tommi with a shrug.

Darfin's sister, Shalendra, came into the room, and she took her brother aside. The two elves argued like siblings, rather than regal lords, much to Darfin's embarrassment, over Darfin revealing the presence of the gates. Finally, she sighed and agreed to take up to two of the Daggerfordians to guard the portals in the cellar. She selected Titus, who agreed to go, but she rolled her eyes at the idea of also taking Tommi (who had earlier expressed an interest).

"You should all get some rest," suggested Talynen, trying to draw attention away from the lords, "If all goes well, you will have a big day ahead of you."

OOC: Tommi can go down to the cellar if @Kobold Stew wants, but you may just have to come right back up again in the morning if you want to join the party on their raid...

Angis chuckled. “Axe man, eh? Nae one knows an axe like a dwarf,” he boasted, twirling one of the many throwing axes he had about his person.

Tommi absolutely follows Shelandra down to the cellar. The idea of a room of gates to other places fascinates him, and he will ask innocent questions to learn as much as he can, to learn where they might take him, and (perhaps) how the locks work and whether he might make it down there again.

Escella returns to her room. She spends a few minutes using prestidigitation to get any remaining road grime from her clothing and gear. They she sits before the fire with her flute. She plays long, low-pitched, mournful notes without melody for a little while. She stops when she notices the flute is glowing slightly. She examines it and it was definitely glowing but the light is fading. She watches as the flute eventually stops glowing. Never seen that before, she thinks. She gets up and gets into bed. She stares at the ceiling until sleep takes her.

Vairar bathes and relaxes reading some poetry. While rough looking and scarred, he remains an elf inside.

He prays before sleeping and feels lighter and lighter until he practically floats to the bed. In the morning he discovers new levels of magical power, guardian spirits of air are his to call as is life giving aura.

OOC: leveled up, no magic items

Dandin takes another bath, cleaning the worst of the blood and grime from himself before heading out to the courtyard. There he greets Ol'Sooty and spends quite a bit of time, playing music on his shawm and tending to the bear's wounds.

Legend
Escella

Escella's sleep was wracked with nightmares. Initially, she found herself back in the Floshin Great Hall, at the dinner they had only a few hours earlier. The details were close enough that she entirely forgot that she had gone to bed. But then things began to change - Dornuk was not the half-orc she had just met, but a full-orc with horrible teeth and one fiery glowing eye. The other half of his face was masked in shadow. Shalendra was still there, having just picked Tommi and Titus to accompany her, but her face wore a twisted mask of anger and resentment.

Time seemed out-of-order, as the servants came in, bringing dinner. (Hadn't dinner been first?) But they were not servants at all, but gnolls, laughing and shoving as they placed platters in front of the guests. Escella realized to her horror that the platters held the heads of her friends and allies - Sir Darfin, Angis, Vairar, Dandin. She stood, and she saw that the guests were all orcs and they tore into the grizzly meal with happy abandon. At the head of the table (where Sir Darfin had been) was a Red Wizard, and he raised a glass in a toast and smiled at her.

The nightmare shifted, and she was in the guest bathroom (She'd been here, hadn't she, before going to bed?) She was washing her face in a beautifully painted ceramic basin. For a moment, she felt calm - it must have been a terrible dream. As she turned, she spotted her own face in the glass of a small hanging mirror.

One eye glowed with fire, and the other half of her face was masked in dark shadow.

Escella wakes with a lurch. The bed is unfamiliar initially but then she remembers she's in the castle. The low embers in the fireplace cast a ruddy glow on the room. Of course since the gnoll cave, it was never really dark any more. She gets out of the bed and goes into the bath and is suddenly struck by déjà vu. Steeling herself she splashes some water on herself to remove some of the nightmare sweat. She looks into the mirror but only her face is reflected back. She casts prestidigitation to dry the water off her clothes as she walks back to bed. She pauses for a moment and goes to the door to her. She opens it a crack to see if anyone is in the hall.

In the corridor, Escella saw Angis shuffling his way back from the garderobe at the end of the hall, dressed only in an old shirt, unlaced to show the ugly dwarf’s hairy chest, barely long enough to keep him modest. He was clean though, having washed off all the orc blood. He scratched his black beard as he stopped and peered back at the human woman.

“Somethin’ wrong, lass?” Angis asked Escella, scratching his bum and dangerously close to making his shirt ride up too high.

"I thought I heard something," Escella says, making a point to be looking up and down the hallway and not at Angis. "Must have been you walking by. Good night." She closes the door again and goes back to bed, hoping the worst of the nightmares have passed. Though she wasn't sure if being haunted by Angis' shirt would better or worse.
