D&D 5E (IC) Scourge of Daggerford

"Two hundred gold?" expostulated Tommi, louder than he ought to have done. "Awwww-right!" he shouted, fist in the air. He starts laughing, giddy at the circumstance in which he finds himself.

Snake walked back down at the table; unfortunately they kept the place to clean for him to find a decent meal.

Listening half-heartily to the fancy elf, Snake sat with the others, uniting people is generally good he thought to himself. His thoughts were erupted by the promise of two-hundred gold each.

Snake’s tail twitched frantically, his expression was one of genuine confusion.“Two hundred gold, each. Is it possible for a person to have the wealth to pay that?”

Lionel had been only half listening, "What I would like to propose is this: I would like for you to agree to form an Adventuring Company. "

His ears perked up slightly, this could be interesting, though getting mum on side might be a problem.

"I will be offering a condition-free gift of two-hundred gold to each of you to outfit yourselves for the job."

And the solution presented itself. That was a lot of money, he thought to himself. In his experience, money was proportional to danger. Quiet until now, Lionel clears his throat.

"Thank you my Lord," he begins. "It is most generous and I for one am heartened to see such leadership and willingness to aid in the plight of the common man. Once the formalities are over, do you have a task for us?"

The offer startled Dandin as much as just about anything could. He was sitting on a good chunk of coin at the moment and had plans to join the next trade caravan with a shipment of goods and a dream of wealth. It would be a good challenge for a young entrepreneurial halfling. But likely boring as well.

This... This was highly dangerous by comparison. But the potential for profit was tantalizing.

Then there was the incentive of some start-up gold. 200 apiece? He could pay for the repairs to the boat by himself if he needed to. It was a thought.

Looking across the table he noticed a trayful of apple dumplings. With a grin he filled his plate and looked around the table to judge everyone's reactions. Before taking a bite, he asked a question. "And how often are we expecting to take on these harrowing adventures?"

"I am very happy to answer any questions you have. My money would not be much of a 'gift' if I were to direct you on how to spend it. That said, if you are looking for my advice, I would be happy to give it to you - in my better days, I had many adventures. My most successful company was called the Company of the Sunlit Sea."

He paused to see if anyone recognized the name and then continued, "If you do not know where to begin, I could give you a few tasks to choose from. There are many perils in this world, and far too few people who are willing to do something about it. Take your goblin raiders, as a recent example. I should like to know from where they came, wouldn't you? As I understand it, two of the three boats escaped upriver. Where did they go?"

Sir Darfin joined in saying, "Goblins are not the only threat to the good folk of the Daggerford area. I have read reports of Orcs on the move, and a pack of Gnolls were spotted west of the Ardeep Forest."

"As you see, there is no end to the good work you could do."
continued Sir Esteval.

“I say we track down the orcs,” Snake blurted out. He didn’t really want to explain to the group why he wanted to hunt down the orcs, but the desire burnt deep inside him.

The fact that everyone had not joined in caused Snake to halt, "What ever we agree too, I'm with the group, and the 200 gold."

Round 0

Angis raised an eyebrow, suitably impressed at the generous offer to fund them as a company. He knew of such things, of course; had hired more than a few himself for caravan protection. He glanced at the others, though, wondering if they had the character and ability for such a dangerous profession? They had done decently well against the goblins. And those goblins still needed to be dealt with.

“If we dae this,” Angis said. “I say we start oot small an’ ‘andle the goblins first.” Hobgoblins were tough, as tough as orcs, but goblins themselves were relatively something easier to cut one’s teeth on. “But I think I would be amenable to the task,” he told the others.

"Speaking of goblins, we have a boat. The shipwrights want just 200 gold pieces to fix her up to be a proper riverboat again. But most importantly they say it's one of theirs. These goblins must have been raiding all up and down the river. And they may have more captives. Why hasn't the Duke sent out the troops?"

Dandin stood on his chair to address the knight this time. This question felt like an important one to ask, and he looked towards the head of the table for answers.

While everyone is discussing, Enseth leaned toward Shalendra and whispered to her,
"Pardon me Lady Shalendra. Enseth, Model Number Seven, designed and computerized as a mechanized arcanic defense system, at your service.
You seem to be a person of knowledge and integrity... also I don't feel very comfortable to speak before such assembly... Do you mind if I ask you two simple questions?

Firstly, I need you to dispel a doubt I have. During his astonishing allocution, Sir Darfin didn't mentioned any Artificial Person as part of the old Alliance of the Three-crowned Kingdoms of Phalorm.
Do you think all of this Adventuring Company proposal does really include me? I would be honored, but I doubt it.

Secondly, my main concern is to "Stop the Thayan Threat" (and "Fully understand the World" too, but it is a secondary directive). Do you see any possible connections with yesterday's events?"

Shalendra & Enseth

Shalendra had been both quiet and stone-faced during all of the discussions. When the shield guardian addressed her, a brief look of confusion crossed her face, as if she had been interrupted from deep thought. She replied quietly while others were talking, "My brother was speaking of the races who ruled Phalorm, aside from when he placated the little folk. Artificial beings do not rule; they serve - but make no mistake, your place in this group would be very valuable. In my mind you are, perhaps, the most valuable member of all. If they do not mean to include you, I would be very interested in your services."

She arched her very thin eyebrows at his second concern, "Thay? Why would you expect a threat from the Red Wizards? That land is very far away. I cannot imagine how Thay would be a threat to stability here."
