The gnoll hangs lifelessly, suspended by the webs like a morbid marionette but, as Dr. Wells releases his concentration on the spell, the gnoll falls with a sickening thud.

"Well, then, let's get my books and find out what Theggar knows."

Morgan steps over the dead gnoll and walks up to the door. KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK

"Theggar, we're coming in. Don't do anything that will get yourself killed."

Morgan opens the door and walks in.

There's honour between wizards...right? right?

When Morgan opened the door to the wizard's room the Thayan appeared to be up to something - very likely preparing to cast some sort of spell. Of course, he was wearing the sheen of mage armour, but that wasn't what caught Morgan's attention. It was the material component of a bird's skull, etched with runes and embossed in gold flakes. The Thayan cut off casting quickly - so quickly that an inexpert eye would likely have missed it.

In fact, Thegger Grynn was also apparently quite deft at sleight-of-hand: The bird-skull disappeared into his robes so quickly that it was almost as if it had never been there at all. "Ah, my friend," said the Red Wizard, "It seems that your new allies have made quick work of the savage beasts. I congratulate you. And I hope that you will put in a word on my behalf. Let me see... here is your spellbook. I have kept it safe for you. Noryerghu the War Chief wished to see it burned."

Morgan's raises his eyebrows for a split second, indicating to Theggar he's seen the spell component. He takes his book from Theggar and strokes his hand lovingly across the cover. Thank the gods. His backup book is in Waterdeep.

Morgan speaks in Abyssal, a language he'd learned as a way to exorcise demons and protect the world from their foul incursions. He hated speaking the language out loud as every syllable is a profanity and every word is a desecration.

"You will die for a thousand years if you execute your scheme" It's an exaggeration but there aren't really words or phrases for 'let's negotiate' or 'peace brother' in Abyssal. Theggar would understand.

Morgan sits at the table and leafs through the book absent mindedly.*

In common, he says,

"I'm sure if you answer a few questions, we can come to an arrangement where you can leave here alive. It seems only fair, given how you've already shown me mercy." (Mercy: another concept that has no word in Abyssal)

Arcana to Identify the spell component:
Arcana: 1D20+10 = [16]+10 = 26

*So, I'm kind of showing Theggar some good faith here, assuming the spell he plans won't kill us all. If the spell component is something like "power word kill" or something that can incapacitate the whole group. I may change my post and warn the group and certainly won't put myself in such a vulnerable position. The goal is to put the wizard at ease as a way to aid whoever is doing the negotiations. I'll use my Persuasion to aid the party in diplomacy.

I don't think I need to roll to aid but I'll throw a roll in here to save time in case:
Persuasion: 1D20+4 = [4]+4 = 8 (yuck)

Leaving negotiations to the wizard, the priest looks over everyone to see how badly they are hurt. He's impressed with the groups tactics this time, no one rushed away except at the end when the orc forced the webs.

No one looks critically hurt so he leaves it at that approaching the half-orc warrior.
"That wasn't tactically sound, rushing into the webs. You got bitten and when you could have thrown one of your axes and be safe. I realize your fighting frenzy gives you strength. I would like to know, how crippling it is for your faculties? Will you turn on us if there are no enemies standing?"

Vairar starts preparations for the healing ritual as he listens to Lunns explanation (and hoping it wont start another discussion about tactics and unwanted advice).

OOC: 1. there will be prayer of healing if a) wizard doesn't start a fight and b) we have 10 minutes free
2. As already established, Vairar is cautious tactician and he will advise whether you want it or not ;) - you're of course free to ignore it or RP for or against, just don't take it personally :) You play your character as you see fit

"It wasn't, no. My rage doesn't cloud my mind too much. I do prefer to get close and personal and to do direct actions rather than extra moves needed to pull out spare weapon. And overconfidence in the rage can bring me to take some risks or to assume I'll kill it on the first try. I learned valuable lesson at that creek we forded yesterday, that big gnoll that transformed had me at disadvantage, that's why use shield and a smaller axe. No matter how much aggression I have, it is always directed outwards, not to the group. Traditionally, the tribe is together, eat, fight, fu...erm...have fun together, outsiders are a threat to be dealt with."
He sneers at the elf
"There is also such thing as too much caution. But I admit, the things bite was worse then its bark."

Lionel pokes his head into the wizard's room to see if it was safe to enter. Everyone looked calm so he snuck in as inconspicuous as possible. While the others were talking to the Thayan Wizard, Lionel started to poke around a little and looking for something that the wizard might have hidden. Being small helped to look under tables and desks, and nobody paid attention to him as he carefully opened drawers.

Perception: Perception Check: 1D20+4 = [1]+4 = 5. Lionel is Lucky, so he will reroll the 1. :) Perception Check: 1D20+4 = [3]+4 = 7. LOL. Not much better.
Stealth: Stealth Check: 1D20+4 = [7]+4 = 11
Sleight of Hand: Sleight of Hand Check: 1D20+4 = [20]+4 = 24

"That wasn't suspicious, new friend Morgan," Escella says after hearing the profane speech come from his mouth. "You want to let him live? How do we know he wasn't working with the gnolls? I don't think that locking himself behind that door was enough to keep them at bay." She turns to the Thayan, "What's your business here so far from your home?"

The Thayan sighed and said, "I will not insult you by claiming innocence. No, I am an agent of Thay, well enough. But I ask you: What choice do I have? Intrigue is the way of things where I am from, and we all must play our part or suffer for our insolence. I have been seeking a way for my master, the Titan Sing-Axe to return to Toril."

His pronunciation of the name that Escella had heard before sounded more like Zingacks.

"That wasn't suspicious, new friend Morgan," Escella says after hearing the profane speech come from his mouth. "You want to let him live? How do we know he wasn't working with the gnolls? I don't think that locking himself behind that door was enough to keep them at bay.
Morgan, sporting a ripped, bloody shirt and barely healed scars from his run-in with the gnolls, his hair matted and dirty from several days of being locked in a room without the privilege of being able to even wash himself, chose to ignore the comment. If it wasn't obvious that he'd been a prisoner then the people who knew him and his reputation would set the record straight. He had little reason to 'prove' himself.

"Well, I'm not sure the governing bodies here will suffer much insolence from a foreign agent acting within their borders. Especially one that uses gnolls as a weapon to harass and murder the locals. Especially undead gnolls."

The last part was a warning: the use of necromancy would be a death sentence and an end to the negotiations.

"What have you found here that you think will help you bring the Titan back?"

INT checks on 'Sing Axe'

Religion: 1D20+7 = [5]+7 = 12
Arcana=11 (forgot to link - it was a bad roll)

Int Check: History to know the laws of the land:
History: 1D20+7 = [16]+7 = 23
It might be relevant to getting him to surrender quietly

"Didn't Titus say something about the titan?" Vairar asks outside and then interjects
"How did you open the portal to the elven estate?"

OOC: This may be impossible due to ritual casting, I'm not sure how much of absolute concentration is needed during long casting
