D&D 5E (IC) Scourge of Daggerford

Snake watched as the orc's head rolled on the ground before Angis kicked if off the cliff. Not how he would have handled the situation, but to each their own, he thought to himself as he adjusted his pack and headed towards the tower.

“It will be nice to have a roof over our heads at least,” he said, calmly, as if they hadn’t just killed a half dozen or more creatures.

Dandin slides farther back into the cart to brace himself and lets Tommi handle Hanar. He'd make sure to give his trusty steed a good brush-down when they got to the tower. As an after thought he looked at the bodies as they moved away. But he just wasn't up to worrying about that right now.

At the top of the cliff and around the other side of the tower, the Daggerfordians found a little passageway through the rock which led to the base of the tower. Inside, they found the first level had a dirt floor with a fireplace and a small menagerie (empty, but large enough to comfortably fit the mule).

The second level had the orc's bedrolls and some weapons (axes mostly, of distinctly dwarven make - not as fine as the smiths of Daggerford, but of excellent quality). Also, the bedroll that took up the most space (which must have belonged to the leader) had a lockbox at its head, one which held 22 gold pieces (strangely marked with the head of an ettin, though well-minted), 68 silver pieces (marked with a dwarf king) and 26 copper pieces (of various mints).

Above that, a trap door led to a covered lookout on the roof, with a commanding view of the sunset over the sword coast. The lights were coming on in the towers of the Daggerford wall, about fifteen miles away. As the Delimbiyr river wound its way down to the coast, forty miles away, it spilled over its southern bank, creating over a thousand square miles of marshlands known as the Lizard Marsh. A mist rose off of that wet land and obscured the view of the sea, but the sky was pink as the sun went down and the scene was a beautiful contrast to the ugliness of the earlier violence.

Round 0

Finished with his grim work with the last orc body tossed over the cliff, Angis washed up with his canteen and headed into the tower where the others were settling in. He noted the others going through the lockbox, and then frowned at the dwarven axes.

“Damn orcs,” Angis muttered, going around to collect the axes. Maybe they could bring them back to Daggerford for proper use.

“Who wants what watch?” Angis asked the others.

OOC: How many axes? Can I find some spare handaxes so I can start throwing mine rather than switching to heavy crossbow all the time? Can’t upgrade to battleaxes yet, but if there are some of them, we could throw them into the cart for when Level 4 hits.

Angis found four decently weighted dwarven hand axes on the orcs before he returned to the tower, to find another six. There were also two battleaxes and a long-hafted axe (a "greataxe") of similar quality. The rest of their weapons was typical orcish rubbish.

OOC: Cure Wounds roll, (Wis bonus +3?): [roll0]

Dandin gasped in shock as the healing energy swept through his body, reknitting flesh and bone. When it was over, he nodded his thanks to Drui and stood up. Seeing Angus come in with a bundle of axes he smiled and motioned to the bed of the cart. "Load up everything you don't intend to keep and we'll save it up for later."

As he motioned to the cart to illustrate, his eyes landed upon the loot from the hobgoblins. Suddenly he smiled and started digging around for a piece that might be identifying of the 'goblinoid' army. "Now that's a thought... Maybe we can get them fighting each other."

OOC: Can I get Angis to roll a history check (it's regarding the orcs, so I believe he'll get advantage from favoured enemy) and I'll give you some info on them, too

The flag from the boat was a black piece of tattered cloth with a red hand print. It seemed likely that the print was made by an ogre, big as it was, and there may have been actual blood mixed with the pigment. It suggested a goblin horde was either formed or was forming, in honour of their conquering god Maglubiyet. The name of the horde would likely be translated as "The Bloody Palm" or "The Red Hand" or somesuch.
