Tommi shrugs when his offer to drive the wagon is refused, or perhaps mocked. He's not sure he can tell. "Whatever you think best," he says, and scouts up a few stones he might need later. Once that's done, he blows into his hands and rubs them together, and then tries to get into an advantageous position.

OOC: Cast Guidance on self. Stealth = [roll0] plus [roll1] for guidance.

Drui glances at the others, a wish of good luck hidden in his stare. The unusual situation doesn't befit the dwarf, but he felt he couldn't leave Dandin to face risk on the open road, not alone at least. He taps Tommi's arm gently, an act of odd appreciation of his courage, and jumps into the cart.

Despite Drui's best efforts to remain undetected, his armor and weapons aren't cut for the task, as he soon realizes. He grabs on to the apron and the metal with concern, but it comes to no avail. He gets a back pain and a pair of complaining arms, just like in the old days of pushing crates and pulling bags. He turns towards Enseth and, embarassed, manages to whisper "Sorry" between two shy snorts.

Location: Old Dwarf Road Switchback Encounter: Orcs

A lone halfling merchant wound his way up the old dwarf road toward the Sword Hills and Mount Illefarn. The sun was lowering on the horizon behind him, and he would have to hurry to find a good place to make camp before nightfall. Perhaps that old watchtower at the top of the hill would make for good shelter.

The orcs in the watchtower could just make him out with the sun in their eyes, better accustomed to darkness. One of the two on watch roused the others who were sleeping in the base of the tower - it was time they got up anyhow. The one in charge, M'gragh, heard the report with interest. A fat halfling would have something in his cart to make for a good breakfast - and if he didn't, well, the halfling might be a good breakfast himself.

But what was a halfling doing coming up into the hills under the mountain? He wouldn't be there to trade with the dwarves. They were deep under the mountain and not friendly to outsiders, M'gragh knew. No, the halfling must be heading for the Laughing Hollow. That meant he would trade with the fey-folk. M'gragh didn't trust the fey-folk, and if this halfling was friendly with them it meant it was a tricky halfling. He didn't trust a tricky halfling.

"Everyone get yer gear!" he yelled to his mob, kicking one of the smaller ones. "Let's show this halfling not to try his tricks with us!"

To show how serious his boss was, his second blew on his horn and yelled, "Get goin' ya maggots!" and all the orc loudly stormed out of the watchtower and ran down the road toward the halfling and his cart.

Begin Round Zero

GM: All the orcs are off the map at the top left. I'll give you a round of prep-time before they come running onto the map. They'll probably see you if you move. ORB1 returns to Enseth just before they get there and reports there are 8 of them.

OOC: Sorry, I should have made the map show further. They will come onto the map in round one from THIS top left corner. Not as close to Dandin as the other map looks. (Though orcs charge, so...)

"ORB1 spotted eight Orcs in the tower. They are approaching from the Northwest and are now quite close.
I think it's safe to assume they are hostile.

I haven't completed my calculations but I'm not very optimistic about our odds in case of a direct confrontation.
What is my course of action?"

Dandin looked up at the sound of the horn and grinned. "Won't be long now. Stay there until they get closer. I'll let you know when it's time to attack."

That said, Dandin went back into his act, he was apparently so startled that he tried to turn the cart around in a bad place and fouled it up on a rock. As the. Orks came around he was urgently trying and failing to get Hanar to back up. He looks up startled and frightened and screams as he chambers out of the cart and runs back down the road. (Ooc: Hoping to give them something to focus on and chase. Kind of like a dog track rabbit.)
