"I will cast aura of healing anyone wounded should be close. It will just take a minute. But I have to heal myself up, sorry. I'm not really up to deciphering right now."

"Too complicated for me. I'll count the money."
“Yeah. I should be able to decipher it but I think it will take a while. I’d like to bring it back to Delphen in Daggerford.

“As I mentioned earlier, when I was in Waterdeep, I’d heard about the gnolls around Daggerford and was worried about my parents who live outside of town. About then, I got this letter from Delphin,”


He pulls out a tattered letter and puts it on the table for people to read,

“I managed to keep it hidden when they captured me. Delphin heard rumours about Red Wizards of Thay being about and asked me to investigate. Of course, our caravan,” He points to Helgrim and Gundran, “never made it.”

“If you’re going back, I’d like to accompany you so I can bring this to Delphen. If not, I’d like to offer my services. I’d probably need to hire mercenaries to investigate anyways and, since you’re here, maybe we can help each other.

“I’m a physician and an abjurist, so I could help protect you all as you explore. What are your plans from here?”
He adds, with a joking smile, “I know Tommi has a habit of getting into trouble but I imagine there’s more to it than that. ”


 

"It's not a habit," says Tommi with mock-shock, raising his hand to his throat as if he were scandalized. "I can't help it if trouble finds me."

He tussels his hair with one hand and plays with the stones held in the other -- stones he has blown on every minute, like clockwork, for the past hour. It's his way of keeping track of time.

"Seeing the Red Wizards -- well, a red wizard -- working here with the gnolls is concerning. And I agree we need to alert the authorities. At the same time, we've broken through here in the lodge, and if we can break the stranglehold these creatures have on this placve, that could interrupt their long-term plans.

Whatever they are.

I suggest we clear this house; make it safe. Who knows, there may be other prisoners still here. Prisoners like Doc Wells, but on the other side of the house, you know? We can do that in an hour, I reckon. We can at least try. Maybe we've killed their leaders, and the remainder will flee on their own, but we need to make sure. And then we can tell others what we've learned."

“That sounds like a good plan. There's a potion of diminution and a potion of healing here. And this dagger is magical."

He pushes them across the table for anyone to grab.

"I could use some of that gold to power an Arcane Lock spell - or maybe two, if you can afford it. Either to lock enemies out of or into an area which I can key to all of us but, if we happen to be separated, the password will be 'The Good Doctor Morgan Wells'

"I'm ready to go when you all are - if you'll have me."



I'd like to take at least 50gp for spell components. Not much interested in anything else just yet but will take whatever share of gold the party is willing to give him.

I'd also like the shaving kit to trim his beard :)

Tommi appreciates Morgan's transparency and openness. He looks at the dagger, and for a moment fancies himself as one of those pirates who uses two blades at once, but the thought quickly disappears. Or, perhaps, is erased by Gutter.

"Thanks, Morgan. I'm happy to have you along. You certainly seem to know a lot about these wizards." He pauses, and hesitates before speaking further. "That's more money than we've seen in, um, months. Like, since we left Daggerford. I don't think we should be using it to power a spell that we don't need. Er, no offense."

Tommi's embarrassed, and weighs up which would disappoint his mother more: appearing greedy or wasting gold. "If it's all the same, maybe we divide it up? Maybe put enough aside for a casting or two of your lock spell, but here? We can post guards. Like me, I can be a guard."
 

Escella, who had joined Grottur in searching the gnolls' chambers, returned with yet another sack of looted coins and gems. This one contained about half-again the value of the wizard's stash.

OOC: That's a total of about 2500gp when you put both together and count them.


Discussing their goals with the newly-rescued Wizard, the group went over the following facts: Goblinoids had attacked Joulkoun; Orcs had attacked the Floshin Estate (and nearby settlements); and Gnolls had attacked a caravan from Waterdeep (bound for Daggerford). All of them had evidence that Red Wizards of Thay were behind it. The Red Wizard, Thegger Grinn had, before he died, admitted that the scheme was to bring the Titan Sing-Axe "back to Toril". He claimed that Sing-Axe himself was the mastermind, and mentioned the names Bahzkah, the spirit-wraith; Nadir the skin-dresser; and Pancheska the alluring. He also claimed that there were five other Red Wizards involved in the plot.

Finding Thegger at the Phylund Lodge had only been fortunate chance. The group was there simply to look for survivors of the caravan attack, though Escella had been captured by these gnolls herself, only months before, and had escaped on her own, but only after having had their shaman perform some sort of ritual, that had made her vulnerable to Sing-Axe's psychic influence (she had resisted) and had given her magical powers. Titus, too, knew what it was to be inflenced by Sing-Axe. He had turned on his friends while under the creature's control. A connection that had now, finally, been broken by his own will, with the help of a Circle of Druids.

But who was Sing-Axe, really? What were his goals? Where could his other agents be found? These questions were, as yet, still left unanswered.

"Sure, there's 9 of us so that's 299gp and 7sp 7cp"

He offers the dagger to @Prickly Pear Lionel before taking for himself. Not that he'd use a dagger but maybe it has some kind of importance for rituals.

"Maybe you should take these potions, Tommi. You're pretty fast and can administer the potion to anyone who might need it."

After hearing the stories from the others, Mogan's face is grim. "We need to get to the bottom of this."

Morgan looks for a backpack to put his belongings into. He decides to grab the Red Wizard's extra robe - it may come in handy.

"I'm ready to go."



I recommend people look at this post and grab the stuff they want. If people don't want anything, I'll put it on my character sheet.

Titus had left his horse Blaze secured in the lodge's stables. The stables was in poor shape, and it had most recently been used as a barracks for gnolls and hyena-worgs. The horse did not like the way it smelled, and Titus did not trust that his horse would be entirely safe there while they looked around. He chose to leave Blaze saddled and loose, where the trained warhorse could defend himself or flee from attack, but he barricaded the stable doors. Hopefully it would do.

The worg and gnoll archers that had been outside (injured in an earlier fight) had fled into the woods. The Daggerfordians would have to leave one eye outside, even while searching around inside the lodge's second building.

OOC: Here's a map of where things stand. All the entrances/exits to the southern building are secure. (Escella and Grottur checked the rooms to the south). Titus is shown in the stables, one floor down, while everyone else is upstairs in a lounge. This isn't where everyone IS right now - As you see, Vairar is shown in the wizard's bed. But everyone is probably discussing what to do next in the lounge. I assume that you want to check out the northern building?
