D&D 5E (IC) Scourge of Daggerford

FitzTheRuke

Legend
Tommi left the swollen door in the western wall for someone else and headed south, checking the open route first. He came to another rotting wooden door - this one partially off its hinges. It rested on the ground leaving a triangular hole that was just large enough for Oh-Six to fly through, lighting the space with a glowing lens on its metallic orb. Escella and Morgan joined him as Tommi peeked through.

Inside was a large brick chamber with a rectangular basin (perhaps once a bath or open cistern). A significant flow of water entered the basin from somewhere out of Tommi's sight to the northwest, but he could see that it flowed out of the basin to the south through what had once been grated, but was now a hole in the wall, quite large enough for himself, Lionel, or even Escella to fit through.

Tommi looks through the hole, and measures the force of the water that he sees in his mind. He's fairly confident that he can assess whether this house is making an effective use of groundwater, or an underground river that would make sense with the natural water in the forest, or if given its force it might be magical or otherwise unusual.

"I can't imagine those skeletal wolves would have needed to water themselves like a reg'lar animal," says Tommi, to no one in particular. If he feels it's natural, he will dismiss it -- there are no signs of further necromantic horror, and he is content ("Looks like a dead end here." he'll suggest.) If what he sees does not match his sense of the natural waterflow he saw above, he'll suggest going in to investigate further.

OOC: Here's a roll to see if the water is natural, if relevant. Nature: 1d20+5=20.

FitzTheRuke

Legend
Tommi was quite certain that an underground stream ran from a place that was out of his sight without going into the room, filled the basin, and then exited through the wall. He imagined that there had once been a more decorative spout and drain - a clay pipe, or more likely, a marble mermaid or the like, and perhaps a copper drain.

Years of increased waterflow during the wet season and neglect had caused the bricks to crumble. While the smaller members of the party could probably follow the underground stream's route, it was only really safe (not to mention comfortable) for Oh-Six to do it, and the orb would wind up out of everyone's sight. Oh-Six hovered, turning slowly to light the corners of the room and reported, "Re: Water ingress/egress. Unit (O6) can access both upstream & (also) downstream. Query: Should unit (O6) proceed (Up/Down), or alternate plan: Return to Tommi?"

Lunn catches up with the group, leaves the scout up forward and remains back guarding the door Tommi left alone. Just in case.

Lionel looks through the door too. Water that flows into a basin and the exits, and the room is otherwise empty? he thinks to himself. What else could be in there?
Lionel grab the door handle and yanks hard, trying to open it larger to be able to get in.

Legend
The door twisted on only one hinge, and it made a loud scraping noise that embarrassed Lionel (who was usually very quiet). But it made more than enough room for him to move into the chamber. In Oh-Six's light, he could see tunnels where the brickwork had collapsed to the water-flow. One led back northward, perhaps running behind the swollen door near the clay pots. The other led southward and down in darkness.
