D&D 5E (IC) Scourge of Daggerford

The explorers pulled back to where the others were. Thankfully, it seemed that the undead in both chambers could not, or would not follow them into the tunnels.

Morgan's quick look at the slab-altar caused him to realize, that while the statue (that he did not see) is a shrine to Tempus Foehammer, the Lord of Battle - the Greater God of War, the altar hidden behind it was dedicated to Malar Beastlord, a lesser god of the Bestial Hunt. The altar was certainly built for butchery, with the easy water access to wash away blood.

A Morgan moves away, he catches the holy symbol on the altar,

"Wait. That isn't a desecrated altar, that's an altar to Malar Beastlord. It's purpose is butchery. I think it's best we destroy it!"

Tommi gets a sense of what Lionel has seen, and signals to those behind. "There are two chambers ahead. Some skeletons and other nasties inside. But there's an altar, and so signs of more demon worship and sacrifice. The gnolls may have come up through here, into the house. We should continue to rat the creatures out."

He turns to Lionel: "I think if we're careful, we can get those skeletons trapped in a line in this channel. They'll be sitting ducks," he suggests.

Tommi and Lionel returned to the others and announced what they'd found. Morgan didn't like the look of the altar, and said so.

Not to be outdone by his friends, Titus had climbed through the northward, upstream hole (the others had gone south) and and announced, "I see some drier tunnels this way, if we want to check that out first!"

"If the undead aren't roving, we should go the other way first so we don't have enemies come up from behind us while we're dealing with whatever is in this direction," Escella says.

"Undead limited in movement shouldn't be a risk, we can just shoot them from afar. And my goddess can keep them at bay even if they come into the tunnels." Vairar offers "I don't like the idea of going away and leaving them to fester. We don't know whether we will be able to return. If Titus didn't find anything, we can probably afford to waste couple of minutes."

"Same logic goes for leaving undead behind us. If we get cut off or pushed back we have to fight on two fronts." Lunn rumbles "And if we destroy the altar, we may weaken any remaining shamans or undead."
